telkom line port errors and slow dsl

hi all
forgive if this has been asked before and point me to the right post, but what exactly is port errors on the telkom adsl line?
Afrihost tells me that they are detecting port errors on my line and i have to ask telkom to re-sync and re-port my line...
my router syncs 4mbps without drops, but my internet is ...wonky.
60% of the time its very slow, and the other 40% it races at close to 4mbps.
now i know there are peak times and other issues that might affect it, but it also has become clear that the line gets progressively worse by a bit each day. Tonight i could almost not browse - restarted router a few times and its back up to 3,6mbps...
ping was also quite fluctuating tonight... 300ms local >500ms intl.
after a while it went back to 25ms - 36ms local, as usual..
so yeah, can someone enlighten me pls?

i seem to get same once in a few days and also have to have port reset and random ping spikes on my game
 
Same here, been having this issue since day 1.
Try gaming with a 250ms ping, it's impossible!

I have called Telkom at least 50 times in the last 3 months, just on principle, and they might just get the hint.

One helpful techie the other night actually said that my line cant handle 4Mbps, so he decreased it to 2Mbps, which worked like a bomb...for 1 day.

Give them a call on 0800 375 375 and test the option above. It could maybe help you...
