We Currently have a 512 ADSL Line from Telkom and Use Mweb for our 512 uncapped Service. We have had this setup for years and it has been working well (as well as can be expected with Hellkom). But Now it is time for use to Upgrade to a bit of a faster line. So I ordered a New Telkom 4096 Line to be installed and have organised a 4096 uncapped account with Vox Telecoms.

Telkom came and installed the 4096 line on Friday but they say that they cannot get the line to sync any faster than 1300??? Also when the Techician installed the line he said that he could not put the new ADSL line in tha same trunking as the Current 512 line as the frequencies where causing a problem?? so he justb left the New Line Hanging Loose out of the Trunking... I dont quite understand as we have a 50 pair cable coming in from the street to the building and the adsl points are about 3m away from the DP.. arent the 2 ADSL Lines together in the 50 Pair Cable?

Now with only being able to get 1300 from the new line the 4096 accoutn with the isp seams a bit redundant so I phone to find out what options we have.. and the ISP Tells me that we can go for a 1024 account.... at an Extra R700!!! So Now I goto pay more for a slower connection? this just doent make sense.

Please if anyone can shed light on the above problems it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok .. Im Pretty Sure that ISP is a waste.. Im Looking into Other ISP..Like Nexus and Webafrica... But ..

Does Anyone have any Ideas on the Telkom Issues?

You need to remember that the ISP's slow your line during the day......... have you tried your line at night?

Certainly shop around a little. You can get cheaper net than at your current ISP. A few others to look at also: Afriost, Axxess, Sainet

PS: Sounds to me like the telkom guy just did not want to do the effort to place the cable securely & neatly in a proper place..... It does take time & energy after all. Remember a lot of these technicians are private contractors, so they dont really care, they get paid in anyway.

Phone back and complain. He may NOT leave it like that. Have your order number handy so that they can identify the techie.

Yup - you need to complain heavily and get someone out to fix all of it. However, do check the link I posted before beforehand as your exchange distance plays a massive part in your line speed. The rest just needs to be tidied up by a better Telkom engineer.
