Long story short.

Trying to transfer an Uncapped LTE contract (R599 per month) contract over from the previous subscriber to my name. The contract has past it's 24 month period and billing is now on a month to month basis.

Been to the local Telkom store 3 times.

First time for the initial transfer along with the current subscriber. Filled in all the forms, submitted completed forms along with proof of address, bank statements, payslip. Few days later called Telkom to find out if the contract has been transferred. Was told the application was declined due to some or other arrears picked up during the credit vetting. Was told to contact credit bureau. Did that and they said all was clear. Didn't expect a credit problem because just got approved finance for a new car.

Second store visit went in to chase the issue down and try and get it resolved. Was then told a different story. Was told that my credit score is too low and that's the reason for the application being declined. Told them thats highly unlikely as I've had previous mobile contracts with telkom as well as a current DSL line as well as clear credit scores from the credit bureau. was told to reapply

Third visit to the store. Resubmitted all documents.

Now I'm fully expecting them to come back with a whole new story and possibly declining once again.
Something is just not adding up and I'm starting to suspect they would rather not do a transfer on the contract and would prefer a contract cancellation as the monthly sub on this particular early deal is now R525 a month for uncapped LTE.

Has anybody else experienced anything similar perhaps? If so, any idea how I can get this contract transferred to my name or who I can escalate this to?

TLDR : Telkom messing me about with all sorts of nonsensical stories and I strongly suspect they simply don't want to transfer this particular type of uncapped LTE contract and would rather it be cancelled.

I'm on the same contract and my month to month has just started.

With Telkom you should expect something like this to take time. Maybe 5 attempts minimum before resolved. You have to persevere unfortunately. Maybe ask the current owner to keep it on his name and pay him month to month with an upfront deposit.

Just one question.... Does anybody know how long the month to month will run for? Is there any cut off for the month to month? I'm thinking of staying on this package as a month to month as there isn't anything in this price range on offer atm...

Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. Except my credit check went through OK. They simply cancelled the transfer request the first time without a reason. I called and put it through again and now I got a message to say that I am not in the coverage zone, which I refuted because my area was covered before when I tried to apply directly and I had the confirmation emails to prove it. So now they say they need to push the transfer through some higher up management. So God only knows when it will finally happen.

I had similar issues. I went to the store in Pavilion and filled in the documents. Then the telkom guy told us that we don't have coverage, so he cannot process it. Long story short, the manager of the store helped us by processing the order. It just depends on the store and who you're dealing with I guess
