Telkom meeting feedback

Thank you RPM for taking the time and thank you to the Telkom reps who attended. (I have a sinking feeling)[xx(]

Could we possibly put up a password protected part of the forum where only certain Telkom Reps can post? Their view I would like to see on THIS forum.

Have they committed themselves to the "new packages" on paper or just verbally?

Can't we get ICASA (The toothless wonder) or CUASA to compel Telkom to release the stats?

Thanx RPM for the good work.

I will have you know that my "marconi" ethernet ADSL router is ICASA approved. As I have posted elsewhere this modem has serious flaws. ICASA is just another money train that will sell us out as long as their wallets stay padded.

I am glad that someone has tried to present our needs in an oficial manner but at the end of the day what we need is for government to step in and deregulate this mess. Then maybe Telkom will spend their 1 billion profit on infrastructure upgrades and cut costs.

I'm tired of paying through my exit hole for network access. I currently have satellite, ADSL and a 128K/64K diginet. They are all necessary for the propper functioning of business and they end up costing over R 9000 a month, and thats cheap.

Never mind the cost of expertise to manage a multiple route solution like that (thank god for linux). Stop raping us. Or at least use the money that you have sucked us dry of, to provide a better service.

<font color="purple"><i><font color="navy">As though Maui needed another reason to recommend it as a place to live, now there's this: The Hawaiian island has become something of an online paradise, offering widespread wireless Internet access at speeds that rival those of DSL or cable modems--think of it as broadband to go.

Broadband wireless today

Want broadband wireless today? 802.11g networking supports speeds up to 54Mbps--at least around the office or your home.

You could use the system to replace the hardwired connection at your Kaanapali condo, and then roam with it whether you're golfing at Kapalua Country Club, snorkeling off Wailea Beach, or waiting at the Kahului Airport. And, oh yes, did I mention that you can do all this for a basic monthly fee of <font color="red"><b>as low as $29.95 a month</b></font id="red">?

OK, maybe Maui's too tony for your tastes. Then how about Missoula, Mont.? Jacksonville, Fla., perhaps? <b>Or Malaysia</b>? The same kind of network is being offered in those locales, too.</font id="navy"> </i></font id="purple">

Guys, spare a thought for Telkom, how will
they compete, how can they keep up, and for how
long can they keep the technology out - not long
methinks!

Look what's on the horizons, check the prices
and Malaysia .. they are on the same cable as ZA.

I seem to recall that one of the goals of Nepad is
to provide cheap internet to all in Africa. Clearly
Telkom will not feature in the future

Well done RPM. At least the the Big T has begun to take note.

Let them however also respond to all my lost ADSL applications. 3 of the 7 so far are lost and needed re-application. Of the 4 remaining 8 weeks to 4 months before installation. Once you find out that your app has been lost, add another month to the above. What wonderful service! I am a [:D] (Happy) Telkom customer. I have no complaints whatsoever. In fact I am so happy, that I wont mention any of these little glitches to the shareholders so that I can increase your profits again in 2004 from 2003 (30% NET PROFIT R1,630,000,000)

I was stoopid, I SHOULD have bought shares...and not listened to my gut instinct about years of shoddy service, disgusting attitudes, ad nauseum. I should have believed the 5 TV adverts per night, per channel, and the hundreds of print/radio adverts and said "Thats what Telkom is all about". Their share price is gonna boom!

The dotcoza boom has arrived!
Just five years late!
(Pretty much like everything else Telkom related)<br />

I'm glad that RPM had the meeting with Telkom's representives. Even though the result didn't surprise me at all (this is Telkom we're talking about.. it took them 3 months to fix my phone line!), it is a sign that Telkom do consider us a threat (if we weren't a threat, they wouldn't bother with us). We must fight on.

I have received a few offers from international companies to work overseas (UK & Australia). I really don't want to leave this great country (and it is great), but companies like Telkom are driving people away. [xx(]

3 world country.. yeah, thats us!

Well done RPM! Like the others said, even though not much came
out of the meeting. Alot has been achieved. Keep it up.

I have just read the details of the meeting. I agree on the keeping it clean issue SW has with the site, BUT:

SW - "ADSL is not an international product but an access product"

Chubs - <i>"What is ADSL?"</i>
See the following link to Demon's website in the UK as to the definition of ADSL:
http://www.demon.net/adsl/faq/faq-whatis.html

This brings me to my next Question:
Chubs - <i>" What is the internet? as referred to in the above link"</i>http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/WhatIs.html#Internet

Please note that the word "International" is used several times.

I think he(SW) needs some lessons in negotiations. And as to the user base "being happy" part, they(Telkom) seem perfectly happy with the stats of how good their service is, see the following link, and this is not a truly representative portion of their subscriber base.

<b>239 Users were Telkom customers</b>.

<b>WE NUMBER MORE THAN THAT!!!!!!!</b>

[V][:(!]

The opinions expressed in this post are personal and to the best of my knowledge the information in the links I have provided is correct.

Thats kind of strange 23% of the people asked were telkom customers and 26% in the total group were dissatisfied....maybe theres a link? [:D]

Kobie, you are a genius [;)]

Now why did I not see that ? [:I]

Telkom wake up as smell the roses.
To say that only members are unhappy with the service is untrue.
I joined to bring this message to you as a reminder that if you have not spoken to you clients and asked for their opinion then don’t talk on their behalf.

I was a very quite member and not happy at all. I battle to get mail from my international server. I suppose that POP3 is also not part of what ADSL is all about. It is a connection nothing else , don’t brows use email or any other thing ONLY BE CONNECTED AND HAPPY ABOUT IT.

Telkom as of 3 September also still have no support and no client service.

RPM

Thanks for your commitment and effort. You've got my backing, and by the looks of it, everyone elses here.

I'm hopeful, that the ignorance and arrogance of Telkom's ADSL decision makers can be looked past, either by they themselves, or the stakeholders. If only they know how many of their subscribers are just praying for an alternate telecoms option and by default would move their business there without even as much as a flinch!

Wake up Telkom, you're on an opportunity gold mine here. The users of ADSL aren't complaining for nothing!

Sincerely

I agree that the whole world should be made aware of the state of communications in South-Africa. At the same time I'm wondering if any of the ANC's opposition parties are aware of the situation. They should be able to get quite a lot of media coverage, or at least I'd like to think so.

Just my 2 cents...

Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Why dont we make more of an effort to get as much publicity on this "little" problem of ours? Write to every news agency, anyone , anything, that could/would be willing to publish something about the terrible service we are getting.
They say we are in the minority? Well then lets make ourselves REALLY heard ?!!!
The more international coverage we can get on this, the better, right ?!? [?]

Thats exactly what we've started to do. The more people who are made aware of the problems ADSL users are experiencing, the more chance we have to get this sorted out.

Cool, what can I do, and what have you done so far?

Please do take in consideration that we do have a representative in this forum, names rpm, and if you run off to increase international pressure then i advise it to be done through rpm.
