Telkom Mobile Roaming on MTN EDGE?

Hi,
Just switched to Telkom Mobile.

I have noticed that when it roams on MTN 3G, it works great!
However, if I am in an area that only has MTN EDGE reception, it refuses to create a DATA connection.

Is this an issue with my phone, or is this common behaviour whilst roaming on MTN?

I've been experiencing the same issue lately in Cape Town.
