Telkom Mobile S5

Hi All.

I'm planning on getting a new Samsung S5 from Telkom, but will be using it mostly on Vodacom's network.
I know the phone is not network locked, but are the "Vodacom Phones" in anyway optimized for their network?

Not really. I gave a Vodafone Samsung phone, don't think I'm losing out, I use it on TM.

Only change is the bloat ware, both containing an obscene amount from Samsung and having the cellphone provider add more.

@Chrome how do you find the Telkom network? When I last used it about a year ago, it was shocking!!!calls dropping poor call quality etc?

Most people here say that the TM network is fantastic.

Awesome data wise where I am (Midrand). I have a 42Mbps MiFi, and I get 30Mbps+ without trying hard, uploads around 3.5Mbps.

GSM wise can't comment further.

I am in the same boat as OP, sick and tired of the VC network but I still love my Moto G very much so I couldn't justify the upgrade

I also don't want to get just the SIM and use my own device; in a years' time I would want to upgrade then I would have to buy prepaid again:erm:

Why not get a SIM that has a year's worth of stuff crammed on to it then?

Yep, just minutes. Which isn't bad considering you can change tariffs once a month. I wonder if activating SIM Sonke is possible.

Also, they have that really awesome prepaid airtime deal going on, where for every R5 you top up, Telkom matches that with R5 free airtime.

There are some great Iphone deals at TM, but not an Apple fan at all.
