Telkom Mo'nice promotion : can it be a scam?

Currently Telkom is running a promotion called Mo’nice offering data and airtime at greatly reduced prices.

On 1 April, I purchased a 500MB data bundle and, prior to connecting, checked my balance and confirmed that the 500MB bundle had in fact been loaded onto my sim card.

I then connected to download my email messages but, to my surprise, after barely a few seconds had elapsed, a message appeared stating that all the data had been depleted! What nonsense?

I immediately contacted the Telkom Customer Care but the agent that answered just would not give me hearing but just blurted repeatedly that it is I that had depleted all the data. When challenged to prove that I had used up all the data, the agent retorted that that is not possible.

Is it conceivable that 500MB of data can be chewed up within a few seconds? No way. I tried to explain this to the agent but in vain. When I asked that my complaint be escalated further, I was bluntly told that it cannot be done.

Previously too, on three occasions, the same had happened. Data simply vanished into thin air and queries logged onto the Telkom website elicited no responses whatsoever. It is a complete waste of time communicating with anyone in its Call Centre or logging queries/complaints online.

I do not have any apps running in the background and, even if there were, no way can 500MB of data be gobbled up within a few seconds. It simply eludes logical comprehension. Even Windows 10 on my computer is fully up to date; hence no updates can possibly be downloading in the background.

It is imperative that Telkom accord attention to the issue and instigate an investigation into its system accuracy in order that no imputation can be levelled against it. Otherwise only a negative inference can be inferred. I really feel scammed. The way customers are treated is intolerable and shocking.

Has anyone else also had the same experience? But is there any way I can pursue matters further? Would appreciate all views and comments.

It remains to be seen whether anyone at a more senior level at Telkom comes across this post and take appropriate action to set matters right.

Telkom is a scam

100% you wont receive a response or a resolution on your problem

if your using the LTE network or even full signal on 3G then yes you can use up 500MB in no time because the speed is pretty decent.

From my experience all Telkom promotions are a scam, they will make it cheaper but ensure it depletes quickly. Hell, even their normal data.

Why the hell do you people even deal with Telkom? Its a bunch of thieves.

I had the opposite experience actually, loaded data and couldn't even use all of it towards to expiry date. Only thing is I don't get good deals anymore. All the current deal seems expensive.

Best promo available at the moment
Was really good up until today. 1GB for 5 days was R16.50, now it's 1GB for 1 day at R44.50. And I'm not seeing a 500MB option anymore, that was R10 for 10 days.
