Telkom Netgear DGN2200Mv2 - locked?

I am tired of struggling with this stoopid router. :angry:

I signed up for the "Simple Uncapped Plus" ADSL 2Mbps product & it was installed on the 15th.
It comes with the Netgear N300 / DGN2200Mv2 router & the V1.0.0.47 firmware,
The product is as advertised, i.e. I get 2Mbps down 512Kbps up however my connection drops perhaps twice an hour.
So either everyone has a line problem or Telkom has a problem with this router?

Router. Take it back to a Telkom shop, and tell them you want a D-Link. My D-Link only dropped once the past year (And that was my fault). I also mentioned in another thread how this Telkom branded router fried my Computer's NIC's.

I am testing the theory, but I may have introduced the problem after I changed the setting to fall-back to 3G.
For awhile I had my 3G plugged in, but then removed it to another router in the house (but I left the settings to fail-over to 3G).
I need a long session in front of this PC to observe if the problem has improved/resolved. I'll make a follow-up post.

I feel this new firmware is a lot better than the previous one, which was totally unstable for me (It kept restarting itself). Also, the new firmware update supports USB Storage device sharing (this wasn't available in the previous firmware).
I am going to guess you will still have the same problem, since I am not even using the 3G failover and had the problems.

OK, I had one reported by the Netgear Genie, however, this seems to have been a false alarm since the router did not do the lights out/red light routine.
So cautiously optimistic...
Not sure if this is off-topic, but I notice that if I change the mode from 145 Mbps to 300 Mbps, the wireless packs in and the router vanishes (Not in range). When I change back to 145 Mbps, the SSID reappears...!
Anyone seen this? Knows why?

They say something about you not being able to use WPA & WPA2 when you want to use the wireless @ 300mbps. Not sure if this is related to your problem...

I see the alert concerning using using WPA2-PSK (AES) to achieve Wireless N. I had in fact tried that at some point, but fell back to the default WPA-PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES) when the router disappeared.
I've just set it back to WPA2-PSK (AES) only and changed the speed to 300Mbps.
The router vanished.
Changed back to 145 and it re-appeared.
So the problem does not appear to be over the security.

I seem to have a few issues with this Router as well.
It runs stable for days on end but then disconnects for a day at a time.
I can only reconnect the internet by turning the router off for a few hours.
Is this standard for the Netgear?

Old thread now but, yes. Just had to restart mine - pings were utter crap, only got 1/4 line speed, reboot and it's fine. It seems to do this quite often. Time to get yet another router.
Turn the wireless off and you can stop rebooting the router it seems to konk out if the wireless is enabled.It gets very hot with the wireless enabled so it's probably overheating locking up and rebooting the whole time.
Just my 2c as mine is working 100% no reboots.

in my experience the dng1000 and dgn2000 are really poor compared to the old stable "never-say-die" dg834 model
there are some batches of dgn1000's going around that will not allow you to change the password, or update the firmware. anyway.
the closest ive experienced to that model is the more expensive, dgnd3700v2, a really very nice toy,
news you can choose to use or lose.

It's not at all possible AFAIK, there are no pre-built binaries for it, so unless you're crafty and want to compile from source and DIY, I doubt you'll have any luck.
I'm using an old Linksys with now with DD-WRT, performs way better.

Its been ages since I used DD-WRT and OpenWRT and back then you could only use it on a router, not on a combo. Might have changed, not sure
