Cannot access news.telkomsa.net and news.saix.net on port 119. This started today . Anyone else with this problem?

It works brillantly ( up to this morning ) . one of the few areas in IT where there have been no "upgrades" for 20 + years and it still works perfectly

But you most definitely benefit from paid services. Premium usenet providers have vastly longer retention, faster speeds, more reliable completion and access to much more stuff.

The best value I've come across is this all-in-one Newshosting deal for $9.99pm:

You get a neat app with search and downloads all built-in, plus unlimited everything. The promo price holds as long as you don't cancel.

HAve a paid for one for old stuff, SAIX runs at about 260 days which is fine 95% of the time. Speed ok at night

My old NZBSA account has been deleted for non use.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Telkom just shut it down. Without ceremony. Without caring. Because they're Telkom.

but can you connect to it from rain?
No. You'd have to be on a telkom connection, most likely fibre or ADSL. I doubt it would work on LTE.
I used to use the SAIX news server years ago - it was fine for new stuff, like current tv shows from the UK for example. I long ago left Telkom and started using paid news servers.
