Telkom not in play, but...

I think one of the reasons that Telkom denies the whole buyout rumour because it doesn't want Joe Public to realise that even the mighty Telkom can be bought with some global company’s back-pocket cash - and a very successful global company at that!
Telkom must suddenly feel so small and vulnerable since coming to realise that there is actually is big bad world out there with massive ICT providers charging a third of their prices. :eek:
 
:) even if codafone bought Telkom (IMO highly unlikely). The only reason they would buy them is exactly because of the high prices they get away with in south africa becuase of the uncompetitive market (thus increased ROE compared to other countries). Vodafone is struggling in alot of the countries they do business in, vodacom is one of their star performers exactly because they can rape the public.
 
Yup Vodafone is looking for a cash cow to milk. Just like Barclays.
 
maybe vodafone wants a cash cow like telkom? and if they do buy telkom they would own vodacom.
 
i think its unlikely because there is a chance of the laws changing forcing LLU and the dropping of interconnection fees, and if it happens reasonably soon there won't be a chance of vodafone recuperating money spent on the investment. I doubt they'd want to show losses for consecutive years..
 
Put this way the only reason why we have not had LLU is because of all the GVT fingers in the Telkom pie. As soon as say Vodafone buys telkom the GVT officials got their huge freeBEE and there is no reason to keep Telkom protected. I think it will be a very stupid move to buy Telkom and I doubt they will.

If they wanna sell anything they better sell quick hehe. Their shares are still on a downward trend, ebbed below R120 this morning from a 1st quarter high of above R170, agh shame.
 
hey its getting cheaper to buy them. If they bought telkom they'd probably divide and sell the company which odly works in our favour. And yah gov likes the fact that with Telkom around we all compain about them and focus less on their involvement. If their hand are freed of the loot, they will force changes immediately. I'd like to see local loop being maintained by municipalities rather, and have networks connect up to it.

Here's a funny thing, i was reading a article written earlier this year about electricity distrobution and how the red1 system works etc and that parts of goverment opposed it since it meant that they were not gonna get a nice cut to use as they please anymore. Makes you wonder about reasons for the municipal telecoms laws.
