Hey guys,

my connection seems to be dropping like every 5 minutes for about 2-3 minutes each time...
this started happening about 1-2 days ago and i have never had a problem with my line...

my area is 012 345 and i set a batch file to continuously ping google, whenever the connection died, I watched my modem status and it seems that my line loses sync with telkom, and upon further investigation i found that im syncing at a lower rate then i used to

Us Rate (Kbps) 512
Ds Rate (Kbps) 3872

When i used to always, get a rock hard sync of full speed at all times...

Im guessing this is a telkom issue, but maybe mweb?
Im really going all out to try and avoid seeking support from telkom :(
Just wanted to check what you guys think and if its just me :)

EDIT: Just got one...

Connection Status (1)

Description Type IP State Online Disconnect Reason
quickstart pppoe N/A Not Connected 0 Authentication Failed

but ive always synced at full speed and never had these issues for ages

ok i think we have established its telkom..

now how can i fix it without calling them :(

Unfortunately you can't. Just log a fault and follow it up every day (or two).

Post your SNR margins & line attenuation, as well as your router model.

So far it seems that Telkom (your ADSL line) is the culprit and not Mweb like you initially thought.

Edit:
You can "fix" it by logging a fault on their website if you don't want to call that 0800 375 375 number.

Have the same problem

my connection just drops, steam battles to reconnect, COD BO gets 999ping, and my downloads also just stop because of no connection, then it all comes back then drops again

jarrydred: I would suggest that you also post your line attenuation, SNR margins and sync speed values here - like I've said to DUDE!@##$%%!

I find it very frustrating that people always think that they have the same problem, when the odds are big that it's not...

has your exchanged not be upgraded to ADSL2+? maybe change your modulation on the router to G.DMT and see if your line syncs properly......

Hey guys, looks like mines fixed!

logged in today, for some reason syncing at full speed like normal and havnt had a disconnection yet :)

Here are my stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.0 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 14.0 db 14 db

This is so funny, I actually just logged a fault with Telkom for exactly the same reason.

Also on a 4mbs line and I seem to lose synch once or twice a day without any reason. Line has been fine for years now.

Someone suggested it could be an issue with the filter on the line. Apparently voice calls without a filter can cause the ADSL synch to drop.

But lets see what they come back with.

True. I had this problem a while back, was a faulty filter. New one fixed it right up. They're cheap as well and dead easy to replace. 5 minute job.

jarrydred: your connection statistics are fine.

Now its really strange i had to reboot the router cause the traffic just died down, and it took about 2 minutes to sync and now my stats are worse, any ideas why?

Stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.5 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 12.0 db 7 db

mine are also changing drastically like every five minutes

i go from syncing at full speed, to 3500/400, to 0/0 to 4096/512 to 3300/440
im going to try fix filters etc now
?????

Getting a new filter tomorrow and I've logged a fault with telkom cause it takes 30 minutes to sync and my phone lines sound crackly with a loud "tick" sound every second hopefully its all solved then
