Telkom Overport MSAN upgrade

No it won't help to cancel.

It will all depend on the route your cable takes to get to the exchange. That routing cannot be changed for an individual service.

Hey all,

Sorry to butt in here,

I live close to DUT(Steve Biko Road), when I check that site for my exchange, it says I'm connected to, is one on the Bluff, 18Km's away...031201..

I've been struggling with less than 2Mb speed on my 4Mb and terrible pings ranging from 10Ms and usually settling around 500-600Ms, yet my cousin 2Km's, with his 2Mb line, up the road in Silverton road is happy at 1.8Mbps/20Ms and is suppose to be on the same exchange according to that site.

My router stats are good and says I can hit 20Mbps line speeds.

Is this congestion and would I really be connected 18Km away to the exchange??

Nah, that's wrong. Tollgate Exchange is in Berea.

Think it's in what's now called King Dinizulu Rd close to the corner of Hunt Rd.

Yeah as I was thinking....

I tried to use that site with my Home ADSL in Toti and it couldn't even find the exchange.

Not the most trustworthy site to go off.

Any ideas what this Tollgate exchange is like? I only moved here a week ago and at the moment, I'm really unhappy.

My cousin is on the same Tollgate fine, I wonder if it's just my line...

On top of the Overport Tower looking down at the exchange building...

Please tell me you're there to upgrade that damn exchange.

I'm dying over here with exchange congestion :(

Go to the exchange and ask the security guard if you can ask the speak to the operations manager.

Should he let you, tell the OM your story with a good attitude and get as much info ask you can and prepare your questions so you don't forget any think. Hopefully he is a people person.

You should have seen the inside of the equipment room the day the new gas supression system failed, luckily nobody was injured.

Apparently it's going to be upgraded soon[SUP]TM[/SUP] according to the guys in the know.

I'm only here for 2-3 more months so doubt I'll benefit from the upgrade.

I don't understand. The link says I'm also connected to the Overport exchange but I'm on VDSL

So, based on usage in peak times (from about 6PM-11PM), I think the Overport exchange has been upgraded over the last few days.

I can stream from DSTV Now/Supersport without buffering which is amazing.

The main indicator is that my WinMTR latency now averages between 20 and 40, whereas it used to be between 300 and 500 before.

Anyone else noticed the upgrade?

EDIT: Also packet loss is almost non existent from the WinMTR results now. It used to be a huge issue before.
