Telkom today announced an efficiency drive which includes a voluntary severance package offer to its managers

This is excellent news for everyone. Telkom middle management is crammed full of useless, old dudes clinging grimly to their positions like limpets whose knowledge of technology is firmly rooted in the early to mid 1990's and are too scared of losing their cushy jobs to suggest doing anything that would rock the boat.

Not really, it's usually the good guys that grab this opportunity with both hands and leave, it's the useless ones that stay behind. The same happened with their technical staff a while back when offered VSPs.
