Hi all ...

I currently have a 384 mbps ADSL line, and use Telkom as the ISP. During the past weekend I noticed that my line speed have increased to 512 mbps.

What is the chance that Telkom is upgrading all of the ADSL lines by one "notch" (i.e. from 192 to 384, from 384 to 512, etc) ... instead of just reducing the prices in August?

In other words, I am looking forward to the price drop while remaining on my 384 line, but Telkom might "upgrade" me to 512, and still receive approximately the same amount of revenue from me ... in which case I will propably have to pay the "downgrade" fee to go back to the 384 line.

Hope you guys understand what I mean here?

Did anybody else notice an ADSL line speed upgrade, and what are your thoughts about my statements?

I got 192 and I got 384 speeds lately! It seems like this is happening to everybody!
A nice suprise from telkom maybe? doubt it

/me faints

512 mpbs? ill take ten

well, this was discussed elsewhere i think, but i reckon either way we win (so to speak). we still get ripped off, but slightly less so. Only about R300 to go until we are able to afford this service.

To downgrade however costs money like you rightly mentioned. If they do charge us to downgrade then i will have to sabotage some telkom vehicles again.

I hope all goes well for consumers in the coming few months

PS: No telkom vehicles were harmed in the typing of this post

god damnit guys

a week ago, im sure i read a thread about how telkom is too evil to upgrade everyone a speed notch up instead of just lowering prices, becos telkom have never heard of international trends and so on.

now just imagine that a telkom employee read the responses on the forums, and decided to implement the upgrade system instead of just bringing down prices, so ppl who want a faster service dont have to pay to get their line upgraded.

then all of a sudden ppl come out screaming saying they wanna pay less instead of getting their lines upgraded. it seems to me ppl just disagree with whateva telkom does blindly.

telscum is a piece of ****, we all know that, and we're stuck in it, think before u read the propogranda and blindy follow the voices of others.

my 2cents.

naturally there will always be people whom have a problem with what telkom are doing. It happens with every1 and every company. It is impossible to have a "perfect" company. nothing a perfect. Telkom could be dirt cheap and have no caps etc, but sum1 will always have a problem.

Sorry i rambling on about what u sayin!!!

Several people have commented that 192Kbps feels like 384Kpbs but I haven't heard anyone saying 384Kbps is feeling like 512Kbps 'cept in this thread. I don't think it's a forceable upgrade though - probably just a Telkom error. Although Telkom don't play fair, I really don't think they would upgrade everyone like that without giving the tiniest form of notification.

damn, if only 512 was feeling like 1024, i'd be happy!

Knowing Telkom they are prolly gonna charge you guys for half a month of unpaid for speed increases. Me included. And because we were being naughty we must pay a penalty (ala WBS).

"Sorry guys, we made a stuff up so now you must pay up."

Take a look at your latest Telkom bills guys and you may find the answer?

We have 3 DSL line rentals at 3 locations (1 X BusnessDSL 512 and 2 X HomeDSL 384).
I just got the latest bill for one of the 384 accounts and the description on the account was HomeDSL 384 as per normal and the price for the Aug portion of the bill was pro-rata’ed down to the new lower price for Aug as per the Telkom press release. http://www.telkom.co.za/common/abou...ticle_789b.html

No automatic upgrade to 512 and No “increase” to the new 512 price of R477, everything was as advertised as per the press release

Also getting 512k down on my 512k line and 384k down on my 384k line as per normal.

Only one 512 line here but I concur. Nice to actually see the reduced monthly fee though.

Why anyone would think the telkom would purposely upgrade without notification escapes me especially as there isnt an upgrade to the 512 available yet. Also, if some are getting better speeds then cool but I wouldnt exactly be advertising the fact.

Im getting a constant 33K/s on my 192k dsl line.. mates with 384k are getting 50k/s..

somethings definately changed, unless telkom broke their softlimiting :)
