Does anyone know if ICASA have approved the proposed Telkom price reductions on ADSL line rental? i have looked around and there is nothing confirming the approval from ICASA and Telkom's advertisements are still stating "pending ICASA approval". The reduction is supposed to happen as from tomorrow.... is someone draggin their feet?

If telkom told them to approve it then ICASA approved it.

Call me cynical but I noticed the reductions in next months bill so I dont think telkom cares either way.

They always say subject to ICASA approval to make it sound it like it's not their (Telkom's) fault that prices are high.
Then again, they are right, sort of!

telkom make much more out of the increase in standard line rentals than the decrease in DSL line prices....
do the math....

the math is simple

big cuts in everything but 512

small reduction in line rental

either way its cash in our pocket

Um - quite a substantial increase in the line rental. From r99 to r110 iirc.

Multiply by 2.5 million?

Versus the adsl reductions multiplied by 100k?

No doubt they're coining it more from the R11 increase. And I'm on 512k so it's hardly even a reduction for me.

Just trying to illustrate the difference between a reduction and an increase.

Every single extortionate cent hurts when you're used to paying a reasonable amount for the same services.

we should get a MASSIVE reduction, seeing as the international connections gets stuffed on such a regular basis, and they couldnt be bothered to provide any answers.

If you work on 1 mil voice landline users which is a conservative figure and 100 thousand DSL users then its pretty clever for them
1 000 000 x R11 that makes R11 million extra profit a month vs
100 000 - the various subs changes it makes it alots less of a loss to them.

So they are saying that they are giving all these wonderful price reductions (which arent actually reduced enough) and in reality they are making more money off of it. The next thing is that everyone who has a DSL connection has a landline! so they are definately making more off of this then they are supposedly losing.

Sounds familiar doesnt it?
