Telkom punts fixed line broadband

And yet, they release a competing product that offers more than double the speed of their fastest landline offer, at almost half the cost of their slowest and most pathetic landline offer?

8ta 10GB/pm up to 21mbps for R199pm

vs

4GB Do(n't) broadband 384kbps for R219 + 160 = R379pm

Yea, I see they are punting fixed line, it costs more and does less. Sad.

+1.

Telkom is pathetic.

A telkom telemarketer phoned me offering broadband & telephony. All the while I have applied for a line & telkom can't be bothered installing it.

Fixed

Lol, I asked for a linespeed upgrade to 1024kbps which they haven't managed to do after a week and they just phoned asking why I don't want to upgrade to 1024kbps. The left hand doesn't even know a right hand exists.

That's why they want to sell more, they make an assload more $$$ off each ADSL connection.

What is the R111 for?

R219 = Uncapped account
R160 = ADSL line rental?

Therefore R111 = the forced analogue line rental you probably never use but have to pay for (and they will disconnect everything if you don't pay this and charge a reconnection fee)

Hehe, I wish. No, R160 = telkom tax, R219 is the new Do Broadband 384k with 4GB cap. I am looking for their cheapest most pathetic offer, to compare to their other 8ta offer.

Edit, I see the line rental is 139, not 160 like I posted. But the fact remains, their fixed line offer sucks

I have used telkom 386 line, all i can say is that
the difference in downloading at 400 kb/s (cellc 3g) compared to 43 kb/s (telkom package)

Makes me see no value in telkom products because you feel that, im are being over charged for one off the slowest
internet connection in this world.

the only thing i miss is the local cap i used to gt with telkom packages

Low costing, low volume internet connections are now better served by using 3G services. Of course high cost, high volume is still better serviced by fixed line connections.

Yes, me to. There is a option that still include local data but I am with another ISP, so it doesn't help me.

well, telkom is slowly improving. can complain all you want, but let's look back to 3 or 4 years ago.....

Yes, that is true but they are always playing catchup. They look better than 4 years ago but how did the mobile industry look 4 years ago? In essence Neotel is also playing catchup. Only real offer I have seen from them is the Fibre package.

Finally I hope this means they are waking up and see the light. People dont use land lines to make phone calls anymore, that's what cellphones are there for, and that's why their land line numbers are decreasing. But they do use land lines if they want stable always on low latency internet connections.

The only thing standing in their way is Helkoms ridiculous prices and the fact that you have to always pay telkom tax for the land line that you never use. If they are serious about growing this market then they have to make the prices compete with 3G by putting as little as possible in the customers way of signing up. If I want internet NOW I can go to any cellphone shop, ask for a 3g dongle which I can get up and running the same day. If you want ADSL you have to wait half a year (yes seriously) and then pay for added crap that you will never even use...
