Hey guys, I'm not sure if anyone has any past experience with this but here goes.

I recently called Telkom and opened a dispute for about 7 months of payments for a downed phone line that has not being fixed and is still currently down, and want to know if I don't pay the current amount owing for the month and let it roll over onto the next invoice, will that amount be deducted off the credit on my account or will I still be required to pay that rolled over amount? Basically I don't want to pay them another cent as they still have not fixed the line and would rather have the current amount due taken off the credit.

Nah it wont work that way. You would still have to pay them. If the line is still not fixed, then you would need to re log this fault, get them to sort it out, and then put in another dispute.

They wont credit you, unless the line has been fixed, and then they would look at the history and apply the credit.

Im currently disputing as well, but i had to wait until my line was fixed before i could log the dispute. Its a tough one, but such is Telkom these days.

Wow okay didn't know the issue has to be fixed in order for a dispute to be successful and credit issued. They didn't mention anything to me over the phone, and I provided them with all my ref numbers for all the faults I've logged.

I suppose I'll see whats going on when I get the next invoice. Does the current remaining credit display on the invoice?

I requested a refund from Telkom, having been paying for a 10Mb line, but only getting 4Mbps for 13 months. After logging a fault, they dropped the sync rate to 4Mbps, and that's where it stayed. Fortunately, I kept a graph of my sync rates, and could show the point at which is was fixed at 4Mbps. After a month or so, an submitting the graph as evidence (and I guess, them looking at the records of faults on my line), they agreed to a refund - far more than I was expecting, in fact.

As a result, I never paid my phone bill for about 6 months, while I used up the credit that they gave me.

It should yes on the invoice. But as i said, they require the fault to be fixed, before you can log a dispute. You would have to possibly call them to double check, but thats what i was told.

Have you found their fixed line account dept's email addy yet?

As its not provided on their invoices - they only provide you with a telephone number -which you obviously can't phone to register a dispute with - especially not if your line has not been working for days.

And [email protected] won't work.

Got a call from Telkom this past Sunday, and they said they have credited my account for 5 of the months I had no service. Of course the problem still has not been fixed and the last two payments I made for August and September will still have to be refunded but at this point I'm seriously considering cancelling my Telkom account and requesting a full cash refund for my credit and the last payments I made for Aug & Sept.

And I thought my problem was BAD - wow!

Still without Telkom lines for days now - losing money as a result of it. And that after they were meant tot fix the DSL.

I won't need to pay for land line call cost next month - as we don't have lines to call from - but I'm also not going to pay for the time we had no service.

What other options are their to POTS analogue line besides Telkom?

Yeah it sucks I've pretty much lost all hope in the cable being replaced. I'm holding on cancelling completely as I'm trying to get Afrihost involved but they seem to require a bit of hand holding as they just closed a fault I logged with them like one day after, so I then emailed them again.

I also wanted to cancel the dsl subscription with them and get a refund for September and the first response I got was not helpful at all and didn't even acknowledge my request for a refund and then I inquired again and they said they can't refund me as they have already been billed by Telkom.

They operate on a pay first dispute later principle. :/

Also known as F the customer.

I have found it quite a problem to have Telkom and a separate ISP with your DSL line speed and data. I have Telkom with the phone line and Cybersmart with the DSL line speed and data. Cybersmart will not refund me for fault downtime when I have reported the fault with Telkom. I have had lots of downtime over the last couple of years, probably equivalent of 4-6 months of downtime altogether. Cybersmart refuses to refund me anything and so does Telkom. Therefore, I have cancelled Cybersmart and will just go with one provider. That way I can have everything refunded when there is downtime.
