Yes, we've made a little progress - as in we've gone up the ladder a bit. BUT, we actually haven't achieved anything concrete. And it frustrates the heck out of me. Actually, our ADSL service is worse than it was before we started complaining.
I read about it ... as far as I can see Telkom has :
- Capped the local bandwidth - I used to play online game at SGS , lots of lekker times playing CS 1.5 and 1.6, NWN, DoD and NS. The local bandwidth was the only reason I used to carry on with my ADSL account...I would of gone back to dial up.
- Introduced more options for customers - Shaped / Unshaped ? Pay / gig ? 256 dl and up ? But it seems to me each option is either useless to any actual user of internet or too expensive for them. In my opinion a user that uses 1 - 3 gig / month only should use dial up or ISDN, as ADSL is not really economically viable for normal browse and e-mail...bandwidth is meant for heavy duty and constant flow of data.
I was suprised to note a nasty trend in UK broadband policies.... Caps , reasonable usage policies , anti abuse policies .... basically cap users to limit amount of traffic which in turn allows more users without upgrading infrastructure.
I currently pay UK AOL ÂŁ34 / mnth (free modem) for a geniune uncapped 2mb / sec connection...downloads and games are lightning fast and this connection is shared between 3 PCs in the house.
The capped options often offer 30gigs for ÂŁ14 / mnth (dont quote the prices..they are close to but not 100% accurate)
None the less the fact that MyADSL is acknowledged as a consumer group and actually consulted by media is a massive growth .... when I first posted my first vent on the old myadsl forums , all we could do is vent...barely a scream in the void of space.
Great job you guys, and especially Rudolph... Hey RPM come a long way since the start up days ... Well done!
