Hi,

Which is the best/most reliable to go for? For ADSL, Telkom lists:

-Aztech 700WR 3G ADSL2 Wireless N 4 port Router
-DSL D-Link Router

Any idea on prices? The home shop doesn't specify.

Thanks

I've got the trusty D-Link DSL-2750U router, which works just fine. In fact, it's been working without a glitch for over two years, and I don't see any point in upgrading it (it's not like the router alone will improve the speed of my internet connection).

I got mine for free as part of a promo Telkom was running at the time, but I've seen them in the stores for around R800 or so if I remember right.

Any reason you need to get one from the Telkom shop ? Unless you getting it for free rather get a tp-link from uniterm direct, you also qualify for a discount as a myBB member.

I actually have this as well and mine is fine. This is for a friend who also has one but it seems to have bombed. Once powered on it sits with a red power LED and nothing happens.

Dont they have the Huawei HG532f?

I see a few Huawei options there but not that specific model. The ones there I'm not sure are ADSL specific.

Oh okay thanks I'll look into this. My experience with buying ADSL routers extends as far as Incredible Corruption which I'm avoiding for obvious reasons and the telkom shop which seemed way cheaper. How do I go about flashing my MYBB badge? The site looks like it requires an account with them to purchase?

Innocent question, but does your friend know to press the power button on the back of the router to turn it on? *hides*

Hey this is a moderately computer literate girl we're talking about here but yeah, she claims to have tried off/on, leave off/on and rear power switch. :D

Forum member is Kernel.

Last time I ordered they will give you a quote and then ask them for the myBB discount. I suggest PM him and he can assist in helping you.

This is a great router. http://shop.dbg.co.za/td-w8970.html

If she's confident it's dead, then ask her to give it to you so you can test it at your home. You never know, it might be an issue with her ADSL line.

Aztech 700wr or a Dlink 2750U. Which would be the better of the 2? Do both have 3G failover? Which has more features, better wifi strength?

Neither are good. Rather get anything running Tomato or WRT firmware. Or if you want some fun, build a pf box. Any thing else will be a waste of time.

If you are only using ADSL and have no interest in VDSL, Wifi or any thing fancy, get the cheapest piece cr!p you can find.
Matrix Warehouse currently have a TP LINK ADSL2+ 4 PORT MODEM / ROUTER for R499.
A friend just bought one and it makes my Billion with all the outputs facing the sea look stupid :)

Takealot sells it for R449. :)

Thanks for that LaraC, will get myself one.
I keep several spare modems as we have plenty lightning here :)

Listen what the Pony has to say, go tp-link. Although I would recommend a better AC version.
