Telkom Simple 3. Is there a catch?

this is what it offers for R399

•Fast 1 Mbps broadband
•5 Gigs surfing per month
•500 Meg 8•ta once off data
•Telkom Landline rental
•Free evening and weekend landline calls
•Free landline and ADSL installation (New customers only)
•Free 3G dongle
•Free WiFi modem

I am a new customer, so what should stop me from getting the deal and cancelling it a month later and keeping the router sinse it is not a contract. Spoke to the call centre lady and she told me there aren't any penalties attached to cancelling. is this true.

Also, its not clear from the website but is the ADSL line rental included in this?

OR should i just get my line and uncapped data from Afrihost.
 
AFAIK this offer ended 30th Sept so your questions are moot.

Visit a Telkom Direct shop to inquire about current specials.

The offer i am refering to began on 1 Oct.

If this offer is still running it excludes the ADSL line and, depending on who you ask, is subject to a 24mth contract if you want a free modem.

Why not fill in the "Call me" form & confirm what's actually on offer?
 
If filled in the call me form and received a call today. Offer includes installation, line rental and adsl line rental. No contract, and if you decide to cancel you can and they will take the modem and dongle back. So she said.

A couple of MyBB members moving from mobile to ADSL have mentioned that a contract is no longer required for a free modem on a new installation, they specifically queried this with 10210.

Be nice to have a definitive statement from Telkom/TI about this.
 
I cancelled everything "Telkom" in November 2012. Two weeks ago I applied for this promo and last week it was installed, devices delivered to me

Shot, what package did you go for?

I'm thinking of 2Mbs line and ISP? I'm not sure yet, it was supposed to be for streaming but Netflix and others all seem to need 4Mbs+ lines, so think I'll just download stuff.

Any recommendations on ISP uncapped that will give me at least 5Gb a day?

I took the 2 meg with 10 gigs of data for R499, however as soon as I'm able to I'm changing it to the 2 meg uncapped one. I can't do that yet as on their system my order is still listed as "Open" so they want me to call back tomorrow when it might be in Completed state.

They didn't have the Uncapped one when I applied. All is inclusive in the price (line rental, data, ISP) so there's no need to look for an ISP, unless you don't like TelkomInternet.

Just wondering how their shaping is compared to Afrihost and Mweb etc.

The 1mbs uncapped at R514p/m doesnt look too shabby, streaming will suck yes but how much data can I pull in one day on 1mbs line?

Well a not so well known secret is that Telkom doesn't really apply any shaping or throttling policy. THis might have changed in the last few months though :whistle:

No too sure about how much you can pull in a day on 1 meg :)

Is it not R477 for the bundle package?

I can confirm that there still doesn't appear to any shaping going on at all.

Only time my torrents are slow is when there are few seeds.
 
I took that deal this week,objective is to upgrade to 1mb uncapped once the installation is complete.
