Hey guys,

So I've spoken to a couple of other TI clients, and it seems they have international access even though they've gone over their allocated caps as well.
Now, it's not uncapped as I've been capped on ~5.3gb on my DO2 (now 3gb, used to be 2gb) account.
What are you guys experiencing?

Well I have been hard-capped on my Do 1 ADSL package since the beginning of last month. Latest cap kicked in on the 7th of this month at 1002 MB.

Will have to wait until next month to see what happens - maybe they have has a change of heart lately. Or it could be a ploy to stop their customers from switching to Afrihost when their bandwidth runs out.

Yeah, I also thought that they may just be doing damage control regarding Afrihost, giving their clients softcaps now, hoping they assume that it'll be a continuous thing and thus not bother switching to Afrihost before their special ends.
I really wouldn't put it past them.

LMFAO... u guys are thinking to hard... ever thought that it could be a system problem perhaps... but get ready to be hard capped at anytime though ;) *taps foot and waits............*

Regarding Afrohost... I would like to see how they will sustain profitability and what impact it will have on their customers sharing Afrohost's Internet pipe, which they won't upgrade if they don't make profit. Hehehehe dialup speeds here we come...

But again, what I always say, my opinion

I believe the fact that I used "either" at some point in my opening column and that I have a question mark in the thread topic indicates that this has been considered, which is why I asked for feedback from other users and didn't go "w00t w00t! OMGZ0RZ!! SOFT CAPZINGZ FTW!!! TELKOM FTW!" ;)

That's not an issue at all. They are a wholesale purchaser of bandwidth and make use of the IS backbone. Once they authenticate you on the network, you are running on IS. So it is IS that you need to be concerned about.

I am not concerned... I'm not moving over to them just to realise that I have to change later again ;)

From their FAQ:
We decided we would take the money we planned to spend on advertising and use it to subsidise our ADSL packages.

We decided to use this monthly marketing budget to buy extra ADSL bandwidth and pass this extra bandwidth and saving onto anybody who signed up for any of our ADSL packages.
I wish more companies would do that instead of annoying us with ads!

I'm sceptical about that...
An entire advertising budget is enough to cut costs that much? And I have never even heard of them till yesterday, so some advertising budget it must have been

You obviously haven't hosted many websites then :p

My daily Telkom usage email stats, showed me as being capped. Been browsing and downloading up until now :( Afrihost looks like a good backup option

As a TelkomInternet subscriber you have access to our unique threshold management service. This service operates as follows; should you exceed your initial individual service threshold, you will automatically be transferred into our collective threshold option. This will enable you to stay online until such time that the average usage for all our subscribers reaches the collective service threshold.

says its still possible for soft capped

And that's perfectly ok because it's your choice... ;)

Me, I could be sitting on the other side like you, changing my router settings from Telkom Internet when capped, to WA prepaid at R70 a Gig, or use my Mastercard to make use of the 25% discount on prepaid at Axxess (once off), or I could simply subscribe to the 10GB offering at Afrihost. Based on my usage, I'm not a heavy user so I use about 8 - 12 GB per month which means my topups cost me between R350 - R630 pm extra. For R290 at Afrihost I get 10GB extra and if I don't use everything, hey, it's still a saving :D Yes I could get the WA 10GB option at R490 or so but I'm never sure how much I'll use for the month, so I top-up.. and top-up and...
I chose the latter option and although I still have to change the router settings when capped at Telkom, it's such a pleasure now.
As far as your comment "have to change later again"... hey it's such a pleasure as their support is top notch (so far) so a simple email instruction will end my Afrihost 'connection' and then on to the next ISP to offer value.... why lose out by sitting and waiting because I might have to change back..... then I'll change back but I've scored in the process.
At the moment I'm using my pro-rata 2.5GB until the end of the month and it's costing me .... R77 and some change :p

I'm on Do-2 but I was capped at 3GBs before Afrihost dropped the bomb. I've been downloading ever since so I haven't yet reset my session so it is possible that once I do they will put me back on international. Possibly a bit hopeful? We will wait and see...
