We've got the business DSL 512 at home and recently it started getting slower and slower. We duly called Telkom and eventually got a technician to come over.

Alas when he arrived, he couldn't find IE so he could fiddle with the router. Should have been the first warnings of trouble...

He proceeded to test the line and then said the problem was some data had got stuck in the line. A little bit of data was stuck and was stopping other data from coming through. The line was then unplugged and held away from the router for ten seconds, presumedly to let the data trickle out the end.

Of course after he'd gone we couldn't get PPPOE to work anymore and had to reset the router anyways.

I wonder if anyone would like to start selling "Line Cleaning" fluid to Telkom? Seems it would definitely help with all those clogged lines and filters...

LOL!!!

That reminds me of that Dilbert where they tell the boss that the token fell out of the token ring network and he goes crawling all over the office looking for it :D

*ROFLMAO* ..... you should have told him you have bought a new carpet and don't want to risk having Data spillage on it .... just to show him you are also smart :D

But, in all fairness to Telkom, it was your own fault. What on earth possessed you to abuse the ADSL line by downloading something!!

*pulls tongue from cheek*

Maybe it is time to start selling my patent pending magnetic Broadband quantum flux inducor ring.

It doubles your DSL line speed by magnetically aligning the properties of your telephone line for optimal connection to the DSLAM ... something to do with the lattice states of the copper atoms.

You get chaps who sell you these magnets that goes around your fuel line of your car and supposedly improves consumption ... same principle :).

Heheheh.

I can only assume that the filter is to keep these rogue data bits out. Perhaps we should clean ours out? :)

Cool where can I get one? Those pesky data bits clogging my line are driving me potty... :D

*ROFL*

this is exactly what is happened in the whole country. Poor untrained teccies coming out and making themselves ridiculous....Thanks to greedy TELSCUM!

...but truly speaking, it would have been impossible for me not to laugh. I might wettend my pants...:D

Okay, so what did you say to the man when he was standing there holding the cable??

I wouldn't be able to contain myself. I think I would probably have taken my cell phone and phoned a friend of mine and very loudly told my friend how stupid telkom is while the teccie is in earshot.

EVEN BETTER!

It would have been kewl if you had video taped him, then shown the video live at the next ICASA public hearing - just after Telkom tries to tell us that we do not understand networks.

Geez man dont let that data fall on the carpet its valuable and you might not be able to afford it in a few months time.

Reminds of the story of some mechanic slyly charging a lady to refill her indicator fluid. :)

ROFL did he face tha jack down and give the cable a lil shake before he pluged it back in
:D :D :D

If only i had a dollar for every stupid comment i come across from technicians, consumers etc i'd be a rich guy. dang i must copy that..

Added: and learn to spell and type properly ;)
