Telkoms great ability to constantly disappoint the majority of its users doesn't help there image.

Most of there technicians are useless, had one the other day didn't even know what a signal to noise ratio was on ADSL but no he is working on the line and you have no choice but trust him to fix the problem which he didn't ! only after months of fighting and after a good few technicians it was fixed.

When ever the line goes down I get an episode of depression thinking the hell and pain that awaits with Telcrap. Its just so sorry that they are the only option for me.

But in other news they are better than MWEB lol

Hey, dont confuse Telkom with Ti. If Telkom ran their infrastructure as well as they run their ISP, then we would all be happy.

I hope your theory of congested exchanges getting preference for upgrades turns out to be true.
Fuk, I'll eat my hat if I wake up and find my router is syncing vis ADSL2+ :D
Congestion was NOT the main criteria. Revenue generation, concentration of users and demand for new services carries a higher priority. In a few cases this would relieve congestion, not all.

The pessimism of some people on this forum. They complain about line speed, Telkom upgrades the line speed, now they look for something else to complain about.

Congestion is being done away with with the MSAN's. And for those of you who still do not know what that is, do some googling. Its an immensely powerful /complex interconnection of machinery. It costs MILLIONS!

Meanwhile in the real world .. my fault of last week was closed & my 4meg line that topped out at 2meg now runs at a whopping 1.6 max :erm:

But no, I'm a pessimist.

Pessimists don't care that Telkom increases line speeds that they cannot use.
Pessimists don't care that they'll be saving money as they'd rather have a faster line.
Pessimists want Telkom to restore their lines to the smooth 4meg they had for 2 years before their trouble started.

I may be a pessimist to you, but all this talk of shiny new stuff from Telkom means absolutely nothing for us with crappy lines that Telkom refuses to maintain due to all this 'imminent' shiny new stuff.

Amen brother! Amen!

You fully understand the reason I started this thread! Whats the use of doubling my speed when I cant even get half of what I currently pay for?

Telkom should fix whats broke first is all I'm saying

In defense of Telkom, I must say that their service (at least in Joburg) seems to improve. Had an issue with my account. Logged the fault online on Friday. Saturday 12pm Telkom crew around the estate doing line tests. Constant updates via SMS and problem is solved this morning.

The bigger issue really is that distance to exchanges, congestion, oversubscription will be more of an issue. But unlike Mweb, Telkom seems to invest in the infrastructure and is aware of the consumption growth (instead of labeling their customers "abusers").

What do you want, new MSANs or old DSLAMs? There are not enough resources in South Africa (Telkom staff + contractors + Chinese MSAN installers) to do both at the same time.

All I want is a stable working connection of at least 4/10MB, thats not too much to ask for surely..

Funny, your defense of Telkom has the opposite effect ..

Why should I be satisfied with fighting Telkom for nearly 2 years due to a line running at half speed when others like you log a call and get helped the very next day? It took telkom 6 days to fix my fault of the previous week, with zero feedback except the final 'your fault has been restored' sms, and when I say fixed I mean I have connectivity but my max speed is now even less than 2meg. :erm:

Ok, the 6 days was a bit of sarcasm, but seriously it's easy to be gracious when your needs are satisfied.

Telkom confirmed this morning that my distance to exchange should allow 4meg (of course, it has previously), TelkomZa recently confirmed my dslam show no problems & my exchange sits at 19% uplink bandwidth (I assume that's utilisation). The problem is old copper that Telkom isn't maintaining or replacing, not any other excuse.

Sad tho that my expectations have dropped so much that right now I'll be pleased just to have full 2meg back !

Not trying to make your day worse, but I logged a call with Telkom say 2.5 years ago about noise on my line and they came and replaced the copper line from my house to the box on the street... no charge. Maybe I was lucky?

I would like to know something so please explain someone:

I got ADSL installed last week Friday. Ordered and received the Do Uncapped Premium which is an all inclusive 4mb uncapped package from Telkom (Phone line, ADSL line and data provided by Telkom). When I check the router, my line syncs at 10mb. Here's a pic of what the line syncs at http://i43.tinypic.com/2zdsyg6.jpg

So, my line runs at 10mb but because I took the 4mb package I only get the ability to browse/download/stream at 4mb speeds. My upload rate is quite fast. Here's a pic of speedtest I just did at 11:06 pm http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2987139878

We also haven't signed the 12 month contract for 25%.

So once these upgrades happen, obviously the speed at which my lines syncs won't increase, but will my download speed etc be that of a 10mb line because my ISP is Telkom or is it literally just the ADSL line speed that increases and not the data speed?

Thanks :)

Correct to your first question.

Meaning? My browsing/download/streaming speed will increase to 10mb or stay at 4mb?
