Telkom to drive prices down?

And what if you wanted to continue to use your current cell and phone number while being connected to telkom 3g?
 
R499 for 10GB, and R799 for 20GB, without modem, is the absolute most i would consider paying to telkom, if neotel is the same price or less, i will swich.
 
Frankly, I would much rather read about "aggressive" pricing and lower broadband costs for DSL / FTTH (wishful thinking I know). Why so much effort goes into wireless is beyond me. Can't we, for a change, get in-line with the rest of the world and start focusing on fixed line solutions for the everyday man on the street. Get the basics right first. Sure, wireless has it's place, but fixed line is definitely a more preferred medium for the home user, or not?

Wireless is the future........... Landlines will become extinct;)
 
3G and HDSPA aren't really all that stable though - speed always fluctuates up and down - its frustrating.

I'd much rather see prices dropping on their fixed line offerings.
 
Fixed line is for the weak. People with no backbone that wants to be customers of an evil corporation. And don't tell me that along the line my data is going over telkom networks - I know that - but at least I am not giving my money to them directly.

In the end it all comes down to cents per megabyte. Give me numbers please....

Fixed line is better (more stable) and cheaper than wireless.

Your money is going to some evil corporation (there's another kind? 0.o) whether you want it to or not - I'm simply saying fixed lines are more stable than wireless or 3G.

I agree that there are too many negative knee-jerk reactions here. However, in this case, it's really not a case of criticism for its own sake. There are lots of good strategies that Telkom could follow (look at BT, for example), but this is really not one of them. Just like Telkom Media, they are committing investors' money to ambitious dreams in markets where they don't really have a chance, and not fixing the services that they could be good at without wasting more money - like cheaper ADSL and a call centre with more than two agents...

This is probably one of Telkom's good ideas (dont hold your breath waiting for the next one). Alot of clients I have to deal with dont want fixed line telecommunications because they move too often or there simply arent enough lines available in the area.

What does concern me is the cost related to the service and its performance (stability, latency and reception).

Oh hell no... if the future is going to be about high latency, unstable internet connections, then I would rather give the future a miss, thank you very much.

I know there is a lot of talk about all the wonderful wireless tech that we can expect to see, just one problem with that: it's all imminent and this is Africa. We are not even able to get decent fixed line solutions, where the rest of the world is decades ahead of us, so I struggle to see how wireless hold a rosy future for us.

I am using Amobia 2mbps and it is very stable and fast. Also, my name is not on any telkom system as a customer ot theirs and that does help to make me sleep at night.
