Telkom to launch 4.5G

Vodacom douche move lawsuit/complaint incoming in 3...2...1

lets give vodacom a few hours... i am certain they are testing telkom's 4.5G as we speak!!

Two hours ago sat on hold for 55 minutes to find out what is happening with my ADSL installation. Imagine my surprise to be told they cannot find anything on the "system"

Wish they would fix their current uselessness. And no, no LTE in my area, no 3G and no fiber. This is in the middle of Durbanville.

I assume that when this gets applied to more towers, a new LTE router would allow this 4.5G to be used on the LTE uncapped package :-)

You might be in luck.

If only data prices could come down

How can data prices come down when Faith wants R3 billion for spectrum from an auction that is ilegal, and that comes with stipulations of 100% national coverage with this spectrum at 100Mbps speeds? If you only get 20MHz of spectrum, which is just 2 x lots, you're not going to get those speeds and you're not going to be able to deploy on a 100% national coverage basis easily. It also requires 3 black-owned MVNOs have access to the spectrum under you. What Faith is doing is bypassing Siyabonga who had a far better strategy, and at the same time offloading government's responsibilities for broadband investment to the mobile network operators, in return for entrenching their oligopoly status and making a couple billion Rand in the process.

How anyone can support a spectrum auction model in this day and age is baffling and is not going to get you significant data price reductions, especially when it entrenches an oligopoly model and especially when the auction itself is quite possibly illegally founded in the 1st place. Vodacom and MTN will be loving this. Consumers should not be.
