Hi guys

From the article in the news section: “He noted that Tarifica -- which monitors international communication-company prices for local calls -- has found that South Africa is well below the average price for off-peak, three-minute local calls.”

That is great news for people that only make three minute local calls in off peak times. This must constitute a rather small portion of the telecoms market in South Africa… What this quote also tells me is that South Africa is NOT well below the average for every single other time, call duration and service. This is not new information, but I wish he will not take the public as complete fools with quotes like the above one.

Is that study available somewhere on the web?

Everything I read contradicts the "SA has cheap local rates"

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

Hi guys

We need to stop thinking of our telecoms rates in terms of the world. Telkom will always have some far off place to "compare" itself with. The truth is that it is too expensive for us, the people of South Africa! To spend more than a R1000 a month on communication as a non-business customer is simply not on. I am refering to 24/7 connectivity to the Internet and the landline telephone.

How on this blue planet can it be justified??? The profits are stating the obvious! THESE GUYS ARE TAKING US FOR A VERY EXPENSIVE RIDE!!!!

### What we need in South Africa is cheap 24/7, always on Internet for under R300 a month. ###

The Tarifica survey is all Telkom has and they will keep falling back on itm its the only thing they have. I wonder if it's even real, or if Tarifica knew what they were doing. Probably not.

I wonder if the 45 million people who don't have a phone will say that R23 an hour is cheap to call their next door neighbour.

I agree with antowan/MaD.
How is comparing yourself to other companies in the world a justifyable comparison? Other companies in other countries are completely different in every way, they have completely different histories, tax structures, regulations and reasons for existing.

This kind of report should be banned as its misleading.

Its like me saying that my apple tree creates 1000 lemons a year, and therefore my apple tree is better than the world standard of 700 apples a tree.

I cleverly don't mention that the apple tree was given to me(So i'm not even paying it off), and that I give my best apples to my extremely rich friends(In the form of shares), and that the leftover apples that have been lying on the floor for 1 week are sold to the rest of the nation, at ripoff prices, and that I have so much money left over that I can actually develop a "forest" of apple trees, and feed the nation at more than decent prices, but I won't, and there is nothing that is going to make me even think of planting another tree.

I'll just keep saying that my tree is better than the international trees.

Why does the governmint not simply create a new legislation that forces teklom to stop raping the people. Oh - thats what the SNO is. Yea right.

Howz about a rule that starts overtaxing companies that are over profiteering.
