Telkom TopUp does NOT have free local.

Hi,

Just contacted Telkom with several emails and telephone conversations. They do not give you local free bandwidth on TopUp. Meaning buy 1Gig International get ZERO local free.

Is there any way to get local only on SAIX?

I'll check it out. Bit expensive though, cost double for local only, what you would by on telkom initial subscription for 33Gig (3Int and 30Loc).

Would rather buy an additional subscription with Telkom if I could and have 33Gig's again for local.
 
Busy giving Telkom grief, they need to give me a product or TopUp of some king on my existing account with local free Gigs or the same subscription again of 33 Gigs

Will keep you up-to-date on the progress...
 
yeah that top up story is a bit of a joke. It costs the same amount per gig for top-up as it costs per gig for a new account yet for a new account you get 10 local gigs and for top-up you get none. So unless you are willing to buy and cancel accounts every month from Telkom try the axxess route. I have tried axxess local before and it works fine, just don't need that solution at the moment though.

A side note: axxess charge R12 per GB (R10 per GB on month-to-month) as the Loot mentioned. Telkom charge around R25 per gig once you go over your "free" local gigs. Crazy!!
 
FYI - no free local on the DoBroadband packages either! Once you are capped you get banking sites only!

dam, didn't know about that one, that sucks

I try not too cap that account though as it is my main international account so it's not all doom and gloom but its still not cool though
 
best solution I'd recommend is cancer ur do broadband package cough up a little bit more like R30 or so... And there you should get free local bandwidth, but I could be mistaken.
 
Negative boet - I'm using 2x Do Level 1's at home and the office - and once they are capped I get an email from Telkom Internet saying as such and that my account is blocked from anything but banking - trying the net shows the same results!
 
flashsa - plenty of us have been accessing local only sites once we are capped on international on our Do accounts since at least November last year.
 
Quite right, infact lots of us are getting used to surfing local sites!
 
telkom's announcement was that Do1 would get 10GB worth of local as part of the price of Do1. Pretty sure saw a number od Do1 users getting it as well.

I have do broadband 3 and get 30 local free, you can check it on your tracker it shows the ammount of local only. Will confirm it though tomorrow.

I bought another Telkom 3G account for R239, will cancel it the end of the month. Works out to R7.24c per Gig so it is much cheaper than the other products, just a mission to cancel it every month, if you have to.

What's the best way too cancel? I have a 1gig Advanced that I want to change to 3gigs. I presume there's no effecient way to upgrade, so cancelling my current and signing up again would probably be best.
 
UPDATE

Last month my DO1 account was disabled when I was capped at 150% of the 1GB..

This month however I am flying on the local only portion... apologies for the misunderstanding.
 
From what is on www.telkomsa.net, it would seem to me that even the TopUp should have local bandwidth. I might test that out next month.
 
Milo, you can try that and let us know, would be great to rather use topup than getting new account and cancelling.
