Well looking at what kenya is doing Telkom is looking even more incompetent. Kenya is 10 times poorer country yet their regime seems to be getting IT. Disgusting really. Not even mentioning Senegal/Rwanda...

SNOT will never get their act together - everything they have done (and not done) reeks of amateur hour antics.

SNOT is only a threat to those who are counting on them to affect change - it aint gonna happen ppl. ICASA needs to be given the teeth to regulate the crap out of telkom because thats the only way we're going to see improvements ini a reasonable timeframe.

Now - back on topic - they cant even roll out adsl competently.

ADSL 2+ and VDSL will be useless with a pathetic 3Gig cap. No you will be able to reach your 3G cap in 4 hours using a 3072K line.

I'm not holding my breath for this either.

My advice to Telkom is to first fix up the local market, drop the prices and improve your customer relations.

Because by the time they'll be releasing these new products, they won't have any customers left at all, the way things are going nowadays.

How long have they been trialling WIMAX for ... ? Been reading about Telkom trialling it for at least two years now. Shame, maybe they need some technical help. Maybe they can't deal in acronyms that long?

Telkom is probably only trailing ADSL2 and vDSL to compete in Kenya, they will probs offer it there and not here for a while just to mock us. :p

We have not even reached/come close to the max for ADSL1! and only RE-ADSL2/2+ has extra reaching effects. Anyways I doubt they will suddenly offer higher speeds.. its likely in preparation for sno, incase they offer anything decent at a good price or just simply out match them in speed.

I finally realized why I was always getting so upset about the broadband situation in our country.
We (enlightened myADSL members) think like a first world country, but we live in a third world country.

Lastly, even if Telkom were to install faster lines, they'd increase the contention ratio which would result in us not seeing that big an increase in speed.

yay then i can get ADSL that I ordered over a year ago at work if they can run DSL over fibre.

Even if Telskommel could just give us their 5 year plan to see where they want to be BY 2010 it would at least make this situation a bit more tolerable. Waiting year in year out, living on rumours, promises, press quotes is so frustrating. If we knew for definite that by 2009 we would have 24mb speeds uncapped etc it would make the next few years bearable while they upgrade their networks etc. Living in suspense waiting for a miracle is a drag.
