Once again, I come to you for some assistance. I currently have a WiFi internet connection, and I am in the process of dropping it and going to ADSL, I have decided to go to Telkom for the ISP, now I am wondering, should I go to for the 1meg Uncapped account, or the 1meg Softcap account.

I am going to use the line to download, so I know theoretically then the uncapped is the obvious choice, but I am still wondering how the whole softcap thing works, because technically it looks like "uncapped" to me just very throttled uncapped?

Can someone please help me with some more info into the softcap accounts? Do they work? How do they work? What is throttled, is it always throttled after being capped, or just during peak times, etc...

Thanks.

Rather go uncapped. The softcap is really slow once you reach it.

Thanks for the reply guys, I also thought (obviously) uncapped would be better, but I just wanted to make sure.

@AcidRazor, I will do some research to which ISP to choose, I heard alot of good things about MWeb, but lately I have seen alot of "warning letter" threads, so i am a bit weary, as i love to download ;)

Don't use TelkomInternet. Support their competition: use any of the other ISPs. My preference is Afrihost, followed by MWEB, Axxess and then WebAfrica.

Uncapped any day, abut ISP, choice is wide, but TI has improved compared to the old

Has the billing, admin, topup and client portals improved? An honest question, because the last I checked I was quite disgusted compared to what the other ISPs were offering.

Why have all that shyte when your service just works... and works... and works?

And here is your warning letter....... not what they used to be....stay away.

So you're content with *** service, and *** systems? That's the problems with South Africans. Too content with poor service, too afraid to complain, and too afraid to switch to better alternatives. Support the incumbent that has been dishing out crap for the last 10 years, and then wonder why things haven't improved.

Give Telkom (or TelkomInternet in this case) a reason to improve: don't give them your business, and support the alternatives out there that are way better. And before you go on again about how TelkomInternet just works and works, check the forums. I'm not saying other ISPs don't have problems, but don't be fooled into thinking TI is the best. At one point in time, they even claimed that uncapped was a farce, and 90% of users were content with 3GB of data and didn't exceed it on a monthly basis.

Thank god we have other ISPs like MWEB and Afrihost who have their heads screwed on correctly, and know what it is happening in other markets, and what the local market wants and needs. Otherwise who knows what we would be stuck with today.

Don't confuse TI with Telkom ADSL. Since the dial-up days I have tried almost all ISPs excepting Openweb (who set the standard). I retuned to TI when they offered uncapped products. My personal experience has been good and TI have not had any reason to contact them. Previously they were too expensive but their pricing has improved (relative to local products).
