I have been plagued with bad Internet the whole year. By bad, I mean my ping spiking from an average 21ms to 3000ms, and back again, repeatedly, in the space of a minute.
Our lines were stolen so I installed a Mikrotik bridge to get to the Telkom exchange.
The deviation in my last series of ping tests, from myself to the DSL modem, was only 13ms.
The deviation from my router to my authentication server is 144ms, over the same period. Even when I try a different ISP, the results are the same, when this happens.
I have two ADSL modems, both Linksys. I swap them out in the hopes that one is faulty, to no avail. Always the same result.
I contend that Telkom's DSLAM is faulty, yet Telkom techie says he pings to JHB at 39ms. FFS, I ping at 21ms when their gear is working. He says if it's an intermittent fault, he has no way of determining that. I am telling him that it is, and can he test some more?
Surely I can't have 2 faulty modems? Both less than a year old.
Techy's idea of testing is standing at the DSLAM with a modem, and his laptop, for a minute, and seeing a reasonable ping of 39ms. Nevermind the 3000ms pings that I see when things go pear-shaped, and that my ping is 21ms when things work fine - Limpopo to Polokwane.
So, I am buying a 3rd modem, and I am going to test that.
It really pisses on my battery that I have to go to these lengths to prove to Telkom that they know nothing, and can they please replace their crappy DSLAM with something that works.
SIDENOTE: I once had Telkom telling my client that the gear I supplied him was the cause of their connectivity issues. As my client was without Internet for 3 weeks, you can see how this would become a problem.
I took his gear back to my place, and it worked fine.
So, after 3 weeks of my client looking at me funny, and Telkom's lies, they eventually admitted that they'd found the fault - the DSLAM had been nuked by lightning. All of a sudden my client's Internet was up.
My client didn't apologise, neither did Telkom, and I only charged for the initial installation, losing any extra fees I might have earned due to Telkom's incompetence.
Well done, Telkom, "crusher-of-worlds"!
Fscking useless *******s!
DEAR TELKOM: I can be useless if you want me to, please hire me so I can also goof around like the rest of your technical staff!
