Telkom vs Web Africa FTTH, which one?

I am also in Pinehurst, Telkom sales came round today.

To be honest, my 4meg adsl(R478) with 50+50gig capped(R199) suits me just fine, torrents download at like 4am. However, 10meg fibre with 50+midnight costs pretty much exactly the same, except it is on a 2 year contract. Is there any reason that I shouldn't just go fibre?
 
Best of both worlds. Still doing uncapped downloads afterhours and everything else works 100 times better. Youtube clips don't buffer anymore. Remote access to PC better. BBC iPlayer site works (with VPN) which never worked on 4Mbps ADSL. No brainer.

I've just learned that Telkom has dropped the 24 month contract quite recently; and now offers month-to-month. That was the only thing holding me back. WebAfrica offers 200gb @ 40Mbps for R1138/month. You guys reckon W.A is the way to go?
 
I was on a live chat with someone at WebAfrica this morning about it.

I asked whether the fibre by Telkom was 12,24, or month to month. He said month to month. Then I said, but I thought it was 24 month contract only. He said it changed recently, and that they too were very happy about that.

But, if they are so happy, why no advertising. Had a look at their site, does look like month to month pricing.

Were you prompted to sign a contract? My Fibre was installed on the 5th and I'm very happy. I was initially told that it's a 24 month contract, but that was before I applied, so I'm hoping that I'm configured as month to month on their end. I guess I can just confirm with support.

I signed up in June already and yes, I was made to sign a contract.

I will drop the fibre section a mail today and ask them how the recent policy change impacts my contract. Not that I'll cancel or anything, would just like to know.
 
Looking at the pricing between web Africa and Telkom is one thing. The other is latency in terms of international gaming. Not a problem if you don't game online but if you do, I would go web Africa. I have the Telkom 20 mbps @ 50 gigs data package and have experienced very high latency (ping > 600) each evening after 20:30. Another friend on the estate (i.e. same fibre line) has web Africa data package and has a reasonable SA ping of 180 in the evening. So my only option is to pay an additional R250 - R300 for a data package with Axxess or web Africa. That makes the Telkom package a whole lot more expensive...
 
For all those wondering how the recent switch to month to month effects you if you signed up with a contract, you are now on month to month. Contract no longer in effect :)

Got confirmation this morning.
