Actually why is the media in this country so reluctant to "dis" Telkom or even discuss the issue - an issue that has far far greater impact on this country than Jake White and rugby issues, yet, ol Jake's issue gets discussed and analyzed to death by the media!.
I'll tell you why, because it doesn't sell papers or get listeners for radio shows.
The fact that Telkom has for the past few years won or come close to winning surveys regarding brand likeability proves that average joe either has no idea what Telkom is all about, or doesn't care.
Most non-techie people I talk to don't understand what ADSL is. F*** I'm not even sure I understand quite what it is. If they don't understand what it is, how do you begin to explain about bandwidth and datacaps and latency and on and on.
Hwo do you explain the ineptitude of ICASA, the wool pulling antics of Telkom and the constant about turns by the DOC?
Editors know this, or they themselves don't understand the importance of these issues. They certainly don't see it as their duty to educate people, just to tell them what they already know with a better headline beacuse it sells more papers. You want news about Telkom, look in the tech section, i.e. it's not important.
