Telkom WiMax and Mweb uncapped

Yes , my setup is like that and it runs like a dream.

I play BFBC2 every night and had no lagging problems at all, latency will be higher than on normal dsl but still work 100%, don't know if it might have an effect if there are more people in your area that connects to the base station.

I play WOW on Screamer and no lagging problems either. In game latency to European servers is between 180 and 220.

You cant use a Telkom WiMAX connection and MWeb broadband but I don't know why you would want to?
A telkom 512 WiMAX connection will cost about R240 a month. Even if you were able to get MWeb 512 uncapped on this WiMAX line for R299 you would wind up paying R539 altogether monthly. And this is on a MWeb "uncapped" ADSL account that admits throttling on torrents and higher latency.

I pay R549 for my Screamer uncapped 512 WiMAX account with no throttling on peer to peer and low latency for gaming.

If you dont need uncapped then look at their capped packages which cost R23 per Gig as opposed to Telkoms R79/Gig

You can, my setup is like follow: Telkom 512 WiMax + linksys wrt54g(router) + MWeb 512 uncapped, it logs in like normal DSL.(PPPOE)

Telkom Wimax is portable, so it is possible to use MWeb with it.

Good luck getting Telkom WiMax. Have a look at the other threads, Telkom does not do new WiMax installations any longer -- even though they still advertise it on their website.

I use Telkom wimax and Afrihost uncapped 512kb package and it works a dream!!

EDIT: No longer use AFrihost - they changed me to IS network and it sucked!! I am now with Openweb. I am finding speeds MUCH better.

Were you a first customer or what? The current price says R549 for 384 kbps uncapped WiMax.

i sighed up last year November sign up for 384 uncapped was R396 pm and with signing that contract your rate will not change unless you cancel and then re apply.

Wimax

Hey Guys,

I previously had an ADSL Line rental and the new Mweb Home Uncapped for R. 299 a month,

I have moved and now telkom have no infrastructure for ADSL in the area I live him, the lady from telkoms CEO office said I can use my wimax which will be set up next week with my service provider account, MWEB Uncapped.

I phoned MWEB, the consultant at MWEB says I have to convert my account and I simply cannot enter MWEB's details and access via the wimax connection.

Im not all technical, but is this true? Do I need another routers besides the billion? whats the most obvious scenario?

The MWEB guy was lying to you. Keep in mind that the speed of the Telkom Wiamx is 512kbps, so you might want to change your uncapped account to a 512.

You don't have to use a router, but if you want to, you will need to get one with a WAN port. Normal ADSL routers won't work.

You can use any adsl isp account with telkom wimax, just dial the pppoe connection with the username and password of the adsl account. Its no different than having a 512kb adsl line.

I have a mweb uncapped adsl account over my telkom wimax with telkom voice over the same wimax connection. No issues at all.
