Well I have lost some faith in the reliability of Telkom's WiMax. After running without a single problem for more than 6 months there has now been 2 occasions where I had no service. The first one was resolved the same day but the second one might take a bit longer as some Telkom staff are striking at the moment. I hope and pray they get around to my issue soon.

Well there's nothing wrong with the technology because my Screamer WiMAX connection is as solid as a rock.
You just need to select your suppliers more carefully:)

Cannot agree with you more. Telkom phoned me about 30 minutes ago to tell me its working once more. When I asked them what they did to fix it I was promptly informed that they had to reset the port. I guess they meant the DSL port so had nothing to do with the actual WiMax solution.

Yep. I play World of Warcraft all the time without any issues unless the link is down like I mentioned in my first post.

I'd rather select a supplier that I'm not forced to buy bandwidth through and have the flexibility to use my current ADSL accounts bandwidth via rather than be fixed with 1 supplier on a 24 month contract or forced to pay quite a sum for the equipment upfront... :rolleyes:

AFAIK, Telkom outsources the Wimax stuff so that should still be fixed in a timely fashion. The only downtime I had was when lighting struck the physical tower and blew everything up. But it was quickly resolved. Quicker than Sentech/iBurst would be able to...

@Acid

Just a small correction. All our bandwidth contracts are on a month to month contract and you can elect to rent the equipment on a month to month basis rather than paying for it up front. We have introduced a once off initial payment for clients who don't want to rent the equip for the rest of their natural lives but this is an option and not mandatory.

Also when you compare our monthly bandwidth package charges to Telkom remember that they include the monthly charge that Telkom would charge for the connection before you then add the broadband package you would buy from another ISP and in all cases our combined charge is cheaper than the Telkom & ISP charge.

I have a wimax land line but they will not give me DSL..
This wimax system is ok but the port does need to be reset on a regular basis as both my lines dissapear on a regular basis

Yes it is cheaper but with 0mb of local bandwidth. And that is a big disatvantage compared to telkom where you can buy R130 for 30GB local or R132 for 2GB international and 28GB local.

So telkom kinda beats you in that sense. And for a user like me local usage is kinda essential as you don't get completly cut off or encure extra charges.
