Do you guys know if telkom is installing it again? I live in a complex that is run by Vodacom gated services and I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices for their "ADSL" offering.

Also if I rent the wimax connection could I use mweb as my ISP and take a 512kbps uncapped package?

Don't know if they are still installing Wimax but you will be able to use the Mweb uncapped.

Update. Telkom does not offer the Wimax service as the equipment needed is not available. This has apparently been the case for the last year. Yay telkom

Just an FYI -

I got a call from Telkom a few weeks ago asking if i could arrange a time for them to come install my wimax.I have had wimax from telkom for over 2 years and had not applied for another link - some sort of error on their system.
But they called me another 2 times asking to arrange a time to come do the installation. So i guess they may have got more equipment and are possibly doing new install again.
I could be wrong, but i certainly spoke to 3 people who said they were ready to come do a wimax install for me.

Telkom is installing Wimax again busy on the phone with them now. They are checking my area for coverage.

Please get the name of the person you spoke to, I will place my order as well

I spoke to a girl named Keke. She placed my order and said it never takes longer then 14 working days.

Will update once it's installed.

The best part is this is in an area that is ADSL active but there's no ports available.

Typical telkom BS. Call center still has the issue with equipment not being available.

If they do install, please let us know

I spoke to someone at 10219 who checked ADSL availability in my area. He said it was ADSL active put there is no ports available, I told him we've been waiting for months can they not offer me Wimax?

He then transfered me to the wireless department were Keke answered and she tested for 3G first which was not available, next she tested for Wimax which was available.

She placed the order and gave me a reference number. Afterwards I confirmed with her that this is for a 512kbps Wimax line.

Was just told to go to one of their offices as they do offer limited roll-outs on certain conditions but they are not allowed to process any application via the call center.

I suspect they might be giving me the runaround but I will try and keep you guys updated.

I don't understand it's the perfect solution to get rid of all their cable theft problems.

I really can not understand this, it is like, here is my money........... sorry we(Telkom) do not want your money go somewhere else!!!!

I know, and most people applying for wimax will have a good reason for choosing it over ADSL. Now they make me go out of my way to give them my money..

If Telkom has existing WiMax infrastructure and capacity in an area, they will accept the application. They are currently NOT expanding the WiMax infrastructure, but will provide services of the existing network.

Well not according to Telkom..... I spoke to them previously, verified that I am in their covered area, but they would not even place the order.
But it is always, one person says this and the other that.....

They should just publish a statement or something. Not just the suspended BS, as suspended, can imply future re-implementation of the service (which alot of us are hoping for)

@slayeruser where you based? i am in pietersburg and a friend uses them here. I wonder if you got the hardware and then just apply for a dsl line if that would work?? anybody know?

nope, i tried applying for a dsl line. they said I had to pay to install it. As soon as I mentioned Wimax the consultant clammed up and told me he is not authorized to do wireless. he gave me the call center number.
