Tried calling 10219 as well as Telkom Direct (Midrand). Both say WiMax is not available.
Please let me know if anyone has a workaround to get WiMax from Telkom.....
Forget about asking the call centres or Telkom Direct Shop staff for WiMax; they are brainwashed to speak you out of it. If you want an honest reply, send a fax to 012-3370116.
Provide initials, surname, ID number, copy of ID, Installation and Billing addresses and two contact numbers of which one should be a cellphone number.
Also insert the geographical co-ordinates as part of the installation address.
Possibly include the reason why you want WiMax - no cables in gated complex, high theft area, cannot game on 3g, etc.
They will tell you if you are in a WiMax area or not.
Moggie - who exactly am I faxing my details to? Telkom? Telkom special division? A bunch of Nigerians waiting to commit identity theft?
apparently i do get screamer wimax coverage, but i'm a bit cautious because of all the bad comments i've read around these forums, and the fact that i have to pay about R3k for the equipment up front.
any comments/ideas/suggestions welcome. i need internet again!
I ordered my telkom wimax early january when my cable got stolen, then again sometime in feb and march and then I gave up, well, they just phoned me half an hour ago to say that they've got equipment and "when can they install?"! I'm really excited right now, it's going to be great to get back to DSL again, no more 3g with 2Gb/month cap(although I might miss the speed!!). I will let you guys know when the actual install goes down and when i'm up and running so you get an idea of how long it takes.
I guess one's Screamer experience depends on where you are located and who their "local people" are. I have had it for 2 months (so according to all the forum posts it should've started going downhill by now) and I can say I am quite happy.
The VOIP is turning out to be a bit of a white elephant and I will be cancelling mine when I upgrade to a 10GB @ 1Mbit package end of May (if all continues to go well that is). Their billing for the VOIP service is also a bit painful in that I have to keep asking for detailed invoices on calls and their associated charges. :wtf:
I should qualify this post by saying that I use it mostly after hours and weekends and that I do not play any online games so ymmv.
Also note, that you don't have to buy their equipment for R3k up front - you can rent it. Also howzit (their representative in the forums) has said that even if you do purchase the equipment, you can get a full refund if you discontinue the service within 2 months and a partial (pro-rated) one thereafter. I am renting the equipment at present but will probably buy it if all goes well during my 3 month "trial" of their services.
@ Solar Please PM me your account no so I can have your voice checked. It should be crystal. I will look in to your billing.
For those of you who are cautious I suggest the following:-
1. Place an order with the 3 month payment of the upfront rental option.
2. Use the connection for 1 or 2 months and if you are not 100% happy then cancel and your 1/3 rental payment will be refunded.
Remember as well that if you cancel with 12 months or 24 months a potion of your rental will be refunded anyway.
