Telkom

This is something I don't quite understand.

It is like asking "When is the highway speed limit going to be 240km/h?" When petrol is R7.50 a litre and congestion means my average speed to work is 40km/h.

How is 8Mbps any different? I know it is not as simple as that, but I think we have bigger problems than line sync speed.

Agreed, but unlike a highway's speed limit, you can't really go wrong upping line sync speeds - because if you do, more people will complain that the cap sizes are inadequate, and so the ISP's will be pushed more to up cap sizes :) Why resist? the only possible hindrance is that backhaul infrastructure won't cope, but that's a load-of-crap excuse if you ask me.
But for now: just because petrol is expensive doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to speed ("hypothetically" assuming speeding is safe :P) if I want, right?
Advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Bring on the 8Mbps!

that 'next generation network' eh? don't hold your breath guys. hope for the worst, that way you can't get dissapointed

You guys raving about next generation crap really only hurt the community. What people should focus on is improving what we have now.

The now: there really is a next generation network in place. It's the products that are lagging.

Everytime I see one of these threads I logon to my router and check my Sync speed and still, nothings changed...

Telkom have had to upgrade their network to NGN, for the video streaming journalists that will be arriving for FIFA 2010, I hear that each stadium has FTTS (fiber to each Stadium), plus a dedicated Telkom team for each stadium.
Gigabyte data circuits linking all cities

Plus its time they improved service levels as they have so long to perfect it as the monopoly. Phoned 0800375375 ADSL Help Desk and the Call was answered within a minute thats deserves praise, compared to 45 min to answer a call, why did it take so long ?

I still have had no access since Wednesday, Waited 30 minutes on Wednesday to have 0800375375 answered was told to phone 10215, as it was not their problem. Sent back to 0800375375, another 30 minutes. I have had 5 visits from TELKOM techies since June and still have not had my problem resolved. So stop all this talk about 8mgs.. I NEED my 384 back
