Don't you just love to hate them? I honestly think the stone age company should send a Rep on this forum. Poor guy would probably be blasted from all sides though!
It's been months since my exchange shows my line is 10meg capable, but when you call they still say it is not. So fix the site then!
Also, the tracking site is down - how can I check my usage! Idiots!
There was a Telkom tech (not sanctioned by Telkom if I remember) who came on board a few years back. The poor guy was so inundated with requests for help that he only lasted a month or so. He very kindly got my upstream speed bumped from 384Kb to 512Kb on a 4Mb account.
With the line upgrade you have to be persistent. My local exchange was upgraded about five months ago according to the checker. My line was physically moved to the ADSL2 circuit about two months ago, but I remained on 4Mb. I would phone every couple of weeks, using different numbers, only to be told a bunch of different stories like "you will be automatically upgraded", "your exchange only supports 6Mb", "The exchange is still in testing mode" blah, blah...
Finally on Thursday I decided I was not going to get off the phone until I had my line upgraded, I spent about three hours phoning different numbers and was passed around from pillar to post until I finally found someone who know what they were talking about.
In five minutes after speaking to that person I was upgraded from 4 to 10. Here are my line stats now:
Mode: ADSL2+
Line Coding: Trellis On
Status: No Defect
Link Power State: L0
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 17.6 15.0
Attenuation (dB): 6.5 2.7
Output Power (dBm): 10.3 0.0
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 27848 1140
Rate (Kbps): 10015 1019
I have a
very small number of downstream super-frame errors, but am very pleased with the performance on 10Mb. It is great.
My advice, keep phoning until you get someone who knows what they are talking about or can refer to you to someone who does. You can usually tell within the first minute of the conversation. If you know you are not going to get anywhere, put the phone down and try again. Hopefully you will get Lucky
Interestingly I got a call from Telkom the following day asking about my experience, and why I had phoned more than once. I didn't pull any punches, but I also gave credit where it was due to the two folks that eventually ended up sorting out the issue.
I once again, publicly, thank them here. Wish there were more like you...
