Hey guys..
Iv been reading the forums for about 6months on and off and all i hear about telkom is bitching.. 'the are too pricey' 'bad service' 'no competition' etc..
But if you all hate telkom so much way stay with them? THERE IS competition!! Iburst, Sentech, Cell C, Vodacom, MTN, and in the next few months, Neotel... you can get broadband through them. But you dont, because you all know Telkom is much cheaper, better packages, speed and is more relible in bad weather etc..
I am not a lover of telkom, i do believe they have a few issues to reslove, but come on guys they are not that bad, the comments on HELLO PETER prove it, instead of bitching, offer them advice and solutions and maybe they will become more friendly at the call centers and communication offices..

Well just my thoughts, been with telkom for about 20 years, remember how bad they use to be?
Keep well all.

We are moaning because telkom controls the bandwidth coming in and going out of south africa...

...and for precisely that reason they're making the other guys so expensive as well...

Remember how bad they USE to be? lmao how worse they are is more like it ... and you are right about "go elsewhere" ... I am just waiting for Neotel to offer whatever they will be offering at whatever price so that I can tell you and Telskum where to get off ....

Yeah, let's count the ways Telkom are making our lives better:

Waiting for 6 months and more for a line or ADSL.
Requesting a move and ending up having to pay for the line you are unable to use because 1, you don't live at the original address anymore and 2, they haven't installed a line to your new address yet.
Being blatantly lied to about why your ADSL installation is taking longer than expected (you try phoning them twice, speaking to two different people and getting different stories each time).
Having calls "escalated" meaning nothing at all - nobody ever calls back.
Being completely unable to reach the call center supervisors when you have an issue. (1, it's a number in CT which costs most of the country a fortune to call and 2, nobody ever answers anyway)
Calling to report that a fallen tree has SEVERED THE PHONE LINE and being asked to pick up the phone and see if you get a dialtone, and then being threatened that if the technician comes out and it's a local problem you'd be charged.
Telkom's services are out of reach of 90% of the population because of 1, price, and 2, Telkom's unwillingness to install infrastructure to them. (Thanks MaD) (It should be mentioned that in the UK, the regulator forces BT to provide lines anywhere in the UK, even if it's not economical, so really the blame for this lies squarely on ICASA's shoulders).

Not to mention that they charge exorbitant rates on international bandwidth and nobody's allowed to bypass them.

In an article 18 months ago (and I doubt much has changed) it was mentioned that it costs about as much to run a 2Mbps link between JHB and CT as it does to run a 42Mbps link between London and New York.

We've tried being constructive, but year after year we've just ended up being shafted. So please, take your Telkom love somewhere else.

The fact is that "competition" is forced to rely on Telkom for a large part of their business so its not true competition. For instance AT&T uses Telkom for 2% of their business, yet that amounts to 25% of their total costs. Those other products are all affected by Telkom too, so you can never really get away from them unless you leave the country.
