TelkomInternet Capped Users - Feb 07

Neotel??
When are they starting?

I think they've already got some corporates lined up - then metropole and cbd's are next - april I believe (might be wrong) - and then hopefully the rest of us! I really hope they're gonna get the job done...:(

Perhaps we could at a later stage - even now - get rpm and the boys to invite Neotel to have a rep on our forums. Basically so that we would at least have someone to speak to about future developments and stop the speculation. Reading articles is not enough - we need more info!

...just a thought

Would be nice, but I think at this stage Neotel have more to fear from us than anything else.

We're the most vocal group of consumers in the industry, if not country, and we're completely disillusioned and cynical. Anything the rep said would be completely torn apart.

For this reason I think it would be a PR blunder to bring someone onto the forum before they have a more concrete idea of what services they will offer, where, when, at what price, etc.

Yes, we need more info. But I think most of what we're asking they don't have the answers to themselves just yet.

Edit: At a later stage though, definitely. It would be nice if Neotel would come to us today and go "we know you have concerns, etc, and would like to assure you that once we are properly up and running we will absolutely engage with you, the community, on what your needs are and what you want from your telecoms provider."

I was capped on 17 Feb. I got a measly 7.3020 GB. Down from about 11 GB. :(

To put it lightly, my dad wasn't happy about the fact that he had to pay for another ADSL account to have internet access till month end.

Username : online######@dsl.2gbsh.telkomsa.net (why does it have to be so long - can one get it changed?)
Uploaded : 273.38MB
Downloaded : 6.20GB
Combined Total : 6.47GB (capped - not bad for 2GB)
Service threshold : 2.00GB

Tell your dad that if you are restricted like this all the time, you might one day rebel and waste to much of your salary on Internet. Tell him that you heard it on Dr.Phill. ;)

If I go onto Telkom's usage tracker, I get :

Downloaded : 0 MB for the week
Uploaded : 0 MB for the week
Total bandwidth used : 0 MB for the week
Total usage for March : 3.1329 GB

wtf???

Can anybody help me with this?
I've only had my dsl for a week, IMPOSSIBLE that I've downloaded 3GB already..
(Did change my router's default password & telkom password)

Another thing, is anybody experiencing problems using SASA ADSL Stats Analyser with a Telkom account??
I use my correct password etc, but gets : "Could not obtain data from server - (Invalid Authorization). Please check account and/or proxy name/password"
I am able to retrieve the usage stats for my OpenWeb Local only account though...

Help would be appreciated.

Can I get my Telkom account's usage stats from SASA Stats Analyser?
Mine returns error 404, could not connect...?

"softcap"

3gb telkom as isp

total uploaded - 1.194 GB
total downloaded - 5.378 GB
total up/down - 6.572 GB

can check email and browse banking sites...but thats IT!

nothing more/less

All roads lead to the beast. Frankly I'm inclined to say rather get a Telkom account and rape it, because even if you do get an account elsewhere, 90% of the money goes back to Telkom AND they lose less bandwidth to you.

So if you get a WebAfrica 3GB account:
R199/3GB = R66.33/GB
Telkom probably get at least R50 of that.

Telkom (and lets say you get 6GB off your 3GB account):
R249/6GB = R41.5/GB

Perhaps we should all switch to Telkom. :p They'd either be forced to hard cap or raise prices, giving other ISPs more of a chance.

They said 99% of their users don't use up their allocated amount.
Do you guys believe this?

I dont, all I do with my adsl line is play online games, watch youtube videos and update my ubuntu box. I dont download from torrents or even use email form home and I use about 6-7 gigs a month.
