Telkom and probably other mobile cellular service providers do this things ...

Unwanted unnecessary costly discreet subscriptions..telkomplus.co.za it is designed to scam people of their airtime

When no one is falling for the trap they add your number in secret to this stupid useless mobile games. This will charge your airtime R3 daily and so on ..to unsubcribe you will have to call 180 and wait ..the easiest is by using ussd *179# to cancel Unwanted subscription

Now Google that ussd and tell me why telkom don't put it out there for everyone to know about it ...

The other scam is our airtime and date that expires without use due to no network. First of all why airtime as a product expires another Bs

Use this USSD to check if you are not subscribed to telkom bs *179#
Dial and thank me later

I had the same thing a few years back on Vodacom. I was subscribed without my knowledge to one of these services which was deducting R10 a day. When I queried it with them, they were adamant I signed up for it. At least the company who runs the service refunded the airtime.

Luckily now all providers, by law, are required to let you block all future subscriptions to such services.

In theory yes. Wife has an MTN contract that gives her 200 minutes and 200 mb/month. She ran out on 19th January

Analysis of the data and airtime showed R17 a day was going to 3 entertainment suppliers. MTN refused to assist, saying it was not their responsibility. It took hours on the phone and 2 visits to their shop in the Blue Route Mall to get it removed. The first visit had the shop person promising her that she had removed these apps or whatever they were, only to find it had increased from R12 to R17. On the second visit, she threatened to register a fraud case with the SAPS as this MTN lady had actually loaded another unnecessary app without telling her

Can't scam me when I have no airtime each month
Phone is wifi only
How does this work? I tried by not loading airtime and away from my wi-fi, the phone does not work at all. The Apple store said it could not work

I have a 120mb/month data package from CellC which cost R199 for one year

I was just kidding, please never take anything I say seriously after 4pm when I start day drinking. Thank You

I think its best to wait for the peer reviewed literature to come out before you trust anything said on mybb as a general rule.

Got a data contract with multiple Sim cards, set spending limit to R1 a long time ago, then last week I get SMS for two of the Sim cards that I signed up some movie crap from telkom plus. It shows as active but no money went off, went and canceled it just to be on the safe side.

I have just encountered this issue.
They blamed me for signing up to these subscriptions, I have a data sim that comes with no airtime, in light that I had no airtime they billed it to my monthly invoice. I had to let their stupid debit go through because they charge a R200 rejection fee each time. In total I had to pay an extra R800 because I was signed up for numerous subscriptions.
I am still fighting with them to date about how my spend limit magically increased.

Report them at ICASA [email protected]

I was also scammed with this. The whole reason I moved to prepaid is to avoid getting cellular providers just adding things on bit by bit every month, so I signed up for a prepaid fixed monthly package called Free Me Family. Telkom then had the nerve to increase my debit order by R400 per month without my permission to deduct R3 per day and R7 per day for some game or app that I've never heard of. Nobody at Telkom takes any accountability for this, and nobody can explain how they amended my debit order for a bunch of subscriptions without informing me. Now pay as you go is being used as a monthly contract, and they are stealing using debit orders. This is disgusting!!!!! I literally have to decide if I take legal action which is a nightmare because Telkom doesnt even have a number to call to talk about fraud in their company.

Do you have evidence it was Telkom that subscribed you? Have you considered online scams, portals and malicious Ad's or even a third party crook who used your number to sign up?
