Telkom's surprise comeback

Telkom's transition from a struggling, copper-focused service provider to a lean, digital infrastructure firm at such speed and scale was one that few South Africans expected.

In the past year, the partially state-owned network operator, and South Africa's oldest telecommunications company, saw its share price increase by 76%.

And through the years they haven't lost their ability to make it impossible to cancel their services.

And through the years they haven't lost their ability to make it impossible to cancel their services.

the one service of theirs that i do make use of i will not want to cancel in a rush - i pay R100 per month for an LTE contract (sim only because i just insert the sim as my second sim directly into the phone) and i get 20 gigs of anytime Data as well as 20 gigs of nightsaver Data that applies between midnight and 6am - and the leftover data rolls over for two months

so for my regular usage i use the Wi-Fi at the retirement home that is included in my rent and when i leave the premises i just fall back on the LTE ..... and for 40 gigs per month its a bloody bargain (when i first started the contract it was R100 per month for 10 gigs + 10 gigs and at that time the R100 included the portable router to carry around - i don't need to add an extra thing to carry around into my pocket so as i said i now make use of the second sim slot in my phone

everything else i had going through them ie ADSL was cancelled easily to get fibre and fibre and the landline were just as easily cancelled when i sold the flat that it was in, so while i agree that some people may have issues if they don't do the cancellation properly BUT i managed to walk in to the place and apply for the cancellations and sent the e-mails and notifications and details they requested and presto it was done, and i had no special contacts ..... i was just a random walk in customer just going in to cancel the services no longer needed - it did take them two months above my one month notification period but i sent them an e-mail requesting refunds for the period after the notifications and they gave me money back .....so they aren't always bad

I will admit that I took a chance with Telkom after having been a landline and ADSL client for decades and having had a bad 5-month experience getting those services cancelled. The Cell phone contract was easy to initiate, I never had a billing issue and at the end of the contract the cancellation process was quick and easy, although of course the cancellation was prompted by other client services issues. Telkom has definitely upped their game, but I don't know if that is enough.
