Telkrap Bites Another Smme...

Yup, in fact, its maybve only th elilly white that may be able to absorb that first bill shock.

Oh yes, and that crappy limit they put on. WHO IS SO STUPID TO ENFORCE the limit in the first month. Telkom are idiots.

Good example of how Telkom is not only screwing the lilly white. :D
I beg to differ - as a generalisation and due to past inequalities the Whites are the ones who can primarily afford a home phone - but Telkom are screwing the black people so bad that most of them cannot afford a phone and have to turn to pre-paid cellphones.

That's why I say, in my opinion, that Telkom has not one gram of patriotism in them as they are doing nothing to make communications affordable to the masses, instead they shaft the few who can afford the service to make up for those who can't.

I agree totally with Mad, it is unacceptable that 90% of the countries population cannot afford access to a landline. Now some might argue prepaid Telkom lines, however with the price of calls etc it makes more sense to just get a prepaid cell phone, atleast its mobile and nobody is going to steal your airwaves, there is nothing more frustrating than having your copper cables stolen. (trust me it takes ages for Telkom to replace them)

As far as im concerned access to phone lines should fall in the same category as electricity & running water. Communication is essential in this modern world. If Telkom provided fair rates then more people can afford to do business and existing businesses can cut costs which means there will be more jobs for the millions of unemployed people in South Africa.

So they are not only depriving millions access to basic telephony but also making sure that our streets are filled with homeless and poverty striken citizens, take it a step further and crime rates would even be reduced if more people had jobs.

And the list goes on & on. In short Telkom is directly or indirectly responsible for almost half of South Africas downfalls, makes you wonder why goverment is not acting on things. Instead they make announcements urging the private sector to support the poor country while they sit back and enjoy the profits.

Anyways half of this post makes no sense and the other half is a half story, difficult to put things across properly while ranting.

One can make quite a bit of prepaid Cellphone calls for the monthly rental of a Telkom line.

It is in fact cheaper for many of the poor to have a costly pre-paid cellphone than a prepaid Telkom line.

This actually makes me wonder if there isn't a case for requesting the revocation of Telkomonopoly's Proudly South African status which it flaunts in our faces whilst depriving the country of its future. Perhaps more investigation into the PSA requirements is necessary...

there's no chance of that happening, seeing as they're one of the founding members

All the better to make a point that they are not a source of pride for South Africans (i.e. the vast majority of us that do not have shares in Telkomonopoly).

telkom is truly colour-blind and all about equal opportunities

they will screw you no matter your skin-colour, gender, social status etc etc

Yeah, and you will get HIV (Hellkom Internet Virus) as a result, so make sure you use a 3rd-party-ISP to protect yourself...blah...2010...blah...

The requirement - money.
Proudly SA is a complete and utter waste of time and people I have spoken to think its a money making scheme with no real benefit to the members.

Just the fact that Telkom is a 'founding member' puts egg on their face. Do they think no one reads the news?

I wouldn't touch PSA with an insulated imported 20 metre mongolian barge pole. They are supporting a company who wants to get rid of 7000 more staff.. and who is holding the economy back from where it should be just so a few shareholders can buy their groceries at Woolies and buy their wives a shiny X5.

Been their. Got that Tee Shirt.
I complained to PSA about Telkom and a nice well spoken chap phoned me back twice. In a nice round about way he told me that the complaint goes in to a pile which might or might not be used. Like a file 13 so to speak.

PSA's concept is great. But it doesn't grab me as a consumer at all. And the fact that Telkom is a member, or should I say, founding member, put the lid on it for me.
I think their 4 point Criteria needs to modified.

A Link to PSA.

The criteria which must be met before the logo can be used are:

1.

The company's products or services must incur at least 50% of their production costs, including labour, in South Africa, and be "substantially transformed" (in other words a product that is merely imported and re-packaged would not be eligible).

2.

The company and its products or services must meet high quality standards.

3.

The company must be committed to fair labour and employment practices.

4.

The company must be committed to sound environmental standards.

LOL i think they fail point 2 and 3 spectacularly, fireworks & all

Even point 1, although they install it and have the network within south africa, they basically just roll out and repackage foreign technology and charge an arm and a leg for it

Point taken, but perhaps we could help PSA liberate themselves of Telkomonopoly, that way PSA would possibly regain some credibility & more importantly Telkomonopoly losing their PSA status would be highly newsworthy & embarassing to say the least...

PS: I am also of the opinion that PSA is a money-spinner ...

I got the middle-finger from the Burst-i disconnection, so my previous reply was delayed somewhat, now that I have read the replies inbetween, I agree with Noone - Telkomonopoly fails #1 due to importing of DSLAMs etc & it does not substantially transform them into South African DSLAMs...
