I was at the Telkom store purchasing some micro filters for my new connection to the Information Dirtroad, when the dude there asked me what ISP I was using. I said "not Telkom" and also said "The minute the SNO comes in I'm switching" to which he gave a chuckle.

That gave me an idea. Next time you phone Telkom for some reason politely ask the operator if they have a section in their customer service app where they keep notes about calls. If they say yes then say "Please enter 'Will be switching to SNO ASAP'". Ask if there isn't perhaps a proper checkbox or field which can indicate this.

Telkom is not sure how many people they will be losing to the SNO, so why don't we start telling them. If the number starts creeping close to or surpassing their estimate I think they'll be getting a bit nervous.

I already told them when I signed up that I will be switching to the SNO if their prices and service is better. Salesman spluttered a bit and shut up trying to convince me to get a Telkom account

Yeah but next time ask them to formally record it and put it in your customer file (if they have one).

They cannot even "formally record" a service fault, installation time, installation address, billing enquiry etc.

I somehow dont think their Amdocs/Clarify system would be able to handle the load. :D

Question::eek: Do you think they really care? After all they've already made a fat profit:D out of us:mad: ...HehHeh

I think that Telkom will be in for a shock once the SNO comes on stream to the home user in December this year. Their target is to make ADSL as affordable as possible to the home user. Most of my friends and clients are aware of the SNO and will be switching once they start offering their services to the home user. I reckon that Telkom would lose more than 50% of their clientele
Recently i downgraded to their 192 package and they didn't charge me the R 260 that a downgrade costs. One other issue that really made me mad was Telkom's account enquiries i couldn't get through for three days.:o

Well if the SNO decide to first go after the bigger account residential customers then us broadband users might benefit with a price war between the SNO and Telkom or maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part.

As the SNO expands its foot-print across the country in 2006-07, we plan to introduce a variety of retail services for the benefit of individual consumers. However, in order to ensure that the SNO customers experience nothing but the very best, we intend to roll-out our consumer services in stages, starting with basic voice telephony and Internet access in the major cities of South Africa. These services shall be available in with pre-paid as well as post-paid billing to suit the individual needs of each customer.

In due course, the SNO will also provide true broadband Internet access services with voice capabilities.

No prices available as yet it seems but i'm sure that there will be a price war between the two though, although i reckon that Telkom stand to lose a high percentage of their customer base.:D :D
