Hi there,

Try to get someone connected via an ADSL account, and they have one of those dodge Marconi routers from Telscum.

I tried to get the person to set up the connection in the normal way (new broadband internet connection that requires a username and password), however, this seems to have failed.

So Im guessing its one of those web based efforts. All the information I have in regards to this modem is this:

Direct adsl to mweb/telkom line. I enable my local area connection and then my adsl is enabled.
Adsl installed by telkom and is their modem supplied.
Modem type is ADSL ROUTER BROADBAND, 4 Port Ethernet interface Marconi
Telkom mat no: 600xxxx
Part number a211-0209-xx
Product serial number; 500903020000xxxx

Is there an online user manual or anyone know a link where I can get download the user manual from or something like this, so I can better assist this person?

If its a new router broadband you should note the following.. The default setting is nolonger with bridge enabled and encapsulation 1483 bridged ip llc. ie. if you want it to work with a PPPoE client on your pc like with a broadband connection in windows xp you have to get on to the router and set the above settings. The default nowadays is for the router to be the gateway/make the connection.

So basically, set you Gateway IP Address in Windows to the IP Address of your router.
Remember the Ethernet Based router handles the ADSL connection, The USB Router on the Other hand needs to be manually dialed through Windows Dialup using the "Broadband Connection that use a Username and Password", you mentioned earlier.

I think the default ip for the router is 10.0.0.2 username: admin password: administrator. you can then use the web interface to setup the connection. set the default gateway to the router ip, or use dhcp to assign you the ip

Thanks for this post, I got one of these bloody routers today and thanks to this post was able to get in because no where ELSE could I find the username and password. :)

I initially got one of those from Telkom, but the documentation gave the pass and username. Quite easy and simple to use.
