telsum wimax vs 384 fixed

Wimax you dont have to have a telephone line so you save on that portion of the rental.

Are you sure of that? I read somewhere that you must be a telscum client in order to get wimax and to be a client you must have a landline

Please prove me wrong :p

I have WiMAX - I don't have a telephone line...

There...all the proof you need ;)

AweSOME!

So you can pay R124.20 + R152 for 384k ADSL = R276.20 per month (I don't want a land line so I will get it just to be able to get ADSL)

Or pay R240 per month for 512k WiMAX.

No wonder they insist that you use ADSL, not WiMAX.

Just to compare a 512k ADSL costs R124.20 + R326 = R450.2 per month.

How much is a land line really worth to you?

Exactly my Point! Its all one big scam for those mofo Suits to make more money out of us.

Only half true. It makes sense that they should put as many people as possible of fixed lines because the WiMax spectrum can only handle a certain number of people.

Agreed with HavocXphere on the certain number of people.

This is what Telkom had to say about it:

WIMAX provides fixed bandwidth regardless of the number of users in the footprint, the footprint is dimensioned for a certain amount of users, once the number of users have reached the limit set for that tower we will not add more users to that tower but rather see if we can accommodate you from another Tower or if the demand is high enough put down a second tower in your area. So the amount of users does not affect your bandwidth throughput negatively.

So what happens if they can't accomodate you? Will they make arrangements for new towers before the demand requires it? The nice thing about WiMax is, you're not shoved in a pool like ADSL and everybody shares the bandwidth, everybody gets the MAX out of their connection. I have to say, not even once were we affected by overcrowding on our WiMax. It might be that to few people are using it for us to realise but as clearly stated by Telkom (above) it should never be the case! :-)
