Temperature scans

I despise this practice by Builders. Unless i need the slip for warranty purposes i refuse to show it to them. Or just drop it on their little podium and walk off.
They want to accuse me of stealing (and that is what they imply) they should have the police there to back them up.

But you are the police?

Been wondering on the temp scan procedure at entrances to certain establishments, everytime i get a scan they tell me the temperature and then often also show me the reading and we awkwardly stand there for few seconds looking at each other, so not sure what is expected from me after being entrusted with that sacred information?

If they didn’t show you the reading you’d probably start a thread complaining about that too.

The temperature scan is important to know whether you're allowing anyone in with a fever and as such - a possible COVID-19 infection.

The problem, almost every place I've been to is not scanning properly, or not using the tool properly. So one wonders how effective it is.

Ideally everyone should get those hi-res infrared cameras installed everywhere that can do fever identification without stopping movement. As soon as it flags a possible infected, they can send 2 or more properly protected guards to remove the person from the store as they're posing a risk.
According to the latest stats about 35% are asymptomatic, while for the rest there is 2-14 days onset period, where the person us contagious but would not show any symptoms.
They should rather get creative with testing for sense of smell and taste as those believed to be the first symptoms to pop up.

There wasnt a sign of complaint in my question, rather pointing out the useless activity and if I was to start threads on those- reading your input/comments would certainly be among the first ones.

What I don't understand is why some businesses do these temperature checks and others don't? It seems completely random. For example, Builders Warehouse does, but Woolies and Pick'n Pay, and pretty much all supermarkets I go to don't check temperatures at all.

If the scanner says Lo, it's not the battery. It's too far from your head.

if you get “scanned” and the thing returns a very low temp, should you not have to get scanned until you read a plausible or high temp? At some places my temp is always OK, at some I’m e.g. 31, a zombie. Cool, you can go in. On those scanners if I read normal I would have a fever and be let in.

Lol, sure bro, this is africa in case you forgot

No... I am the customer and they should treat me as such. Not a suspect that they have to search.

You aint no Drax and thus it easily went over your head due to your slow robot reflexes.

Most MassMart stores do it, I suggest you send them a strongly worded letter or avoid their stores or both.

i think im going to take a scanner with me next time and ask to scan the dude before he scans me

I don't mind my temperature being taken. For yonks at a retirement village, which had a care unit, where I had to regularly enter, I was scanned like they are doing now. I am more curious about the hand soap; I like how some places once they have already scanned you then instructs you to 'wash' your hands, it is common sense and shouldn’t be lectured, but rather pointed out.
