I recently Read a thread from one "fastesthamster" on my adsl, slandering ODS or ODS CEO "Dean Henstock" to be more precise. After being totally astounded by the level of service ODS delivers, it got me thinking.... are we maybe expecting too much from ODS because they are relatively small company in relation to the IS and SAIX giants of South Africa?.... Are we maybe venting our collected frustrations on the little guy who is worried about our well being, rather than our payslip and the maximum they can shed off it for what I regard as a basic necessity in the rapidly growing age of technology? I mean think about it, we all want someone who we can shout at, the higher title the person holds, the better, and with ODS, it doesn't get higher than Dean Henstock. I am unsure as to whether Dean is a busy man, but common sense tells me yes. ODS is definitely up there with the ISP giants, and as far as I'm Concerned, on there fibre plus accounts, they are their own backbone, therefore qualifying them as "First Tier" . So tell me, would anyone go directly to the CEO of IS, or SAIX, and ask him to help you install your monowall, or setup your static ip or DDNS? I'm sure if you had the chance, you would, but what would he say?... thats what i thought.

So extremely eager to put ODS to the test, I went on to the website, did some reading and after i had gathered all my information, I called them.

I spoke to a guy by the name of Tashiel.
I explained to him that I am a compulsive gamer and p2p downloader, Tashiel immediately cut the b*&$s^it
and told me what I needed (little did he know, that I already knew what I needed). So fine i went ahead and placed an order. I emailed him the application forms, and he invoiced me and i paid my setup fees (which is only fair). Me being me and trying to milk him further than his personal cellphone number, i also asked him for his msn contact and his skype, and he, without second guessing, gave it to me.

So now you can imagine the stress Tashiel would have been felling, as i was relentlessly hounding him from all forms of communications, throwing rather difficult questions to him, questions that i didn't even know made sense, I honestly turned into the customer from HELL, calling Tashiel, literally at 3am in the morning, while playing WOW, to ask him ridiculous questions that had just "dawned" on me at the time, even though half asleep (or so I thought) he answered with precise and comforting replies.

I then began experiencing problems with my torrent downloads, so, as usual, the first sight of any problems, Tashiel to the rescue! Again, it was at about 12:20am, on a Wednesday night, that I waited to call him, now Tashiel knows my number and he could of easily said he was sleeping and avoided it, but I have yet to catch Tashiel not answering any of my phone calls, the guy is a machine!! Definitely something from out of the matrix!

I must say Well done ODS! you guys have excellent staff and fastesthamster was ridiculous in thinking that a CEO of a first tier ISP would put everything on hold for him, he should have just gone to Tashiel

It's really fun making appropriate words that contain and conform to the order of a 3-letter abbreviation ie:

ODiouS.
ODourouS.
hoODwinkS.
falsehoODS
etc.

Can anyone else think of any? Remember to keep them appropriate...

I can think of some other acronyms but I would prolly get banned if i posted them :D
Interesting first post tho, doesnt look like advertising at all.. *cough*

That's the problem with first time posters...can you believe them?

But then again, people are quick to believe negative first poster, only when it is positive it gets questioned.

But why would anyone go out and get a new service just to disprove one poster on a forum? Seems like he did some homework on ODS, or know them personally (knowing them inside out)

:confused::confused::confused:

man o man this first post is dodgy

his first post on myadsl is about ods's amazing service

makes you wonder how someone who read's this forum does not post, then suddenly decides he want to test a company on a website he/she has not used before

i smell a rat, it aint a pretty smell either :)

-always good service in the first few days....

...lest see if this sort of service continues on day 59+

most probable just another PR stunt from the big infamous

since when is ODS a first tier ISP - don't make me laugh

must say the paragraphed style of posting and drop-n-go is bit similar to ww and dean, IP check on the Nick and those related
may reveal more than already suspected or nothing...

Either that or working for them!
That way you get to look like a satified customer and advertise your service at the same time.

Well I've got quite a few posts and I've only had good service from them. Then again I'm not the kind of person that phones at 3 am to ask random questions, as long as I've got a working, activated account I can sort it out myself. :)

I always find a first post like this a bit fishy, but am prepared to give the poster the benefit of the doubt.

I've never had any personal experience with ODS, so I have no idea what their service is like. But I must say I was extremely put off by their very unprofessional comments on MyADSL lately. I'd probably stay away from ODS. I prefer dealing with a professional company.

Firstly, I can assure you that no one at Online Digital Solutions would have posted that comment. On a second note, we are not a first tier ISP, we are a reseller of SAIX / IS and have begun building some of our own infrastructure which I hope will bring better and lower cost solutions to clients. We are working on increasing our service to clients. Yes we have had some problems but strive to ensure they are sorted out. If you have had any type of bad service please could you email me [email protected] I will ensure that any problems that you have had are sorted out.

I'm sure it can't all just be bad....otherwise they would def. not have existed anymore.

It was just a strange first post. And the comments from ODS on previous threads was a bit disappointing in my view. But i wish them all the luck to succeed in their business. This will only be good for the market, to have good competitive ISP's and hopefully someday not controlled by telkom :D

Hi Dean,

Please could you respond to the PM I sent you on 04-11-2007?

Regards,
Dave

lol, use his email address and ask him through email...

pm isn't really an acceptable way of business communication...

what if he doesn't log in for a while?
Apparently my emails are not getting through to him. He checks this forum regularly enough, and at least I know PMs get through.
