Terrible ping with BF2

I have tried playing lately and my pings are up the wall ...
450 avg !
I ping random sites and all is well, Ping Telkom sites and I get horrible pings

I have no issues (with pinging the web server at least). My bf2 in-game ping is usually 16 or thereabouts, depending on what the wife is browsing. ;)

I'm noticing that international is REALLY slow at the moment.
 
Telkom's ADSL is stuffed at the moment as well. It's been sucky since Saturday or Sunday.
 
also getting HORRIBLE pings with IS.. normally 20-25 today and yesterday 450-650!

This sucks giant dead donkey ****...

anyone got any clues as to whats going on?

Apparently a problem in Rosebank with Saix.
 
do you get those pings during the day or at night

because i get a 200-400 ping from 8-5 on the servers but after that is goes back to normal

and weekend its normal
 
Those pings mostly have been at night (20-25) however when I first got BF2 mid last month I played during the day and my pings were around the 100-150 mark..

Any idea how long this situation is going to last? (kinda like asking 'do you know the winning lotto numbers?')
 
i fear pings are gonna get worse more and more ppl signing on for adsl

and telkom so less and less

so more and more and less and less = bad
 
One of the reasons I got DSL was so I could play BF2 and other games online, and with a 450+ ping what games will be playing apart from internet solataire, and even then I probably get dropped anyway.
 
Had the same issue with it today during the afternoon...I'm with WebAfrica (SAIX - West Rand) and my pings are usually between 25-40ms. Today when I tried to play it was 400-500ms. After 17:00 it dropped to 60ms and I have a feeling it's going back to 30ms later tonight again.

I phoned WebAfrica AND Telkom support, none knew what the problem was. At least Webafrica support acknowledged that there seemed to be a country wide issue with latency today...and it's probably Telscum sitting behind it once again.
 
It's not just today, it's been happening the whole past week. The fact that Telkom refuses to acknoweledge the problem makes me wonder if they haven't oversold their bandwidth to the point that there just isn't enough to go around.
 
Me thinks you might have a very good point. This sucks though because I'm on leave next week and was hoping to get some GEWD BF2 sessions in during the day...right now I don't think that's going to happen. Oh well :(
