Hi all,

When I signed up for my RAIN LTE (nearly 2 months ago now) I was getting decent connection speeds (8mbps up and down)
I purchased an external antenna to boost my speeds up to an amazing 15mbps up and down.

This last week my connection has been running anywhere from 0kbps to 15mbps at random, with my router now every so often reporting "no signal" or "no network" with increasing frequency before the signal comes back 1-2 minutes later.

Two weeks ago, I used to be able to netflix, stream, game, etc on this just fine. Now I can barely check my emails or hold a skype call.

Very frustrated with the service right now, how do I go about getting actual support from RAIN / IS on this?

Issues seem localized to my area, as anywhere else with a different tower (Centurion, East-rand, etc) seems to work just fine (except one or two disconnects which I put down to bad luck)

I've tried using both my B315 and B618, same issue.
I have two different antennas, a poynting XPOL 6 and some other dual-polarized thing I made a while back which I bought from scoop. Both antennae give me similar results.

Clearly the issue here lies with the tower constantly falling over, or throttling taking place.

Any assistance?

Edit:
Duplicate post?

Guess that's what I get when my connection falls over when submitting a post.

Did you try the 2600MHz band with the B618 especially with a properly aligned antenna like yours the 2600MHz band can get some decent speeds.

Yep, same results.

Spent a weekend up on my roof with fine tuning everything, looking at the huawie toolset for db, SNR, etc.
Tried all bands.
Currently most stable on the b315s on the lower bands.
B618 higher band just has the most amazing packet loss and latency you've ever seen.

This really sucks. :( It definitely seems like area congestion. I can see that the Team on Twitter has logged this call for you already and we are simply waiting on Rain to address the issue in your area and unfortunately it is going to take some time. :(

Yep, those Afri-twitter people are good stuff.

Modem #3 (another b168) giving me 50mbps at work, 1Mbps at home if it connects.

Guess I'll cancel my netflix and keep paying for this LTE that I can't use. (don't wanna lose that double-data)

@AfriNatic , have you any idea how long "some time" might be?
Are we talking days, weeks or months here? :/

It's really difficult to say. We can only give you feedback once the RAIN coverage team investigate :(

Fair enough,
I'm doing all my updates & whatnot during the morning when it works properly, just frustrated because it leaves me unable to play games or stream at night when I'm home.

Totally understand. It sounds like it could be a demand issue, which means we'll have to wait for them to upgrade their infrastructure :(

Hi there, have you had any success thus far with your enquiry?

Interested in your outcome because its been almost a month ago we signed up for LTE-A package with Afrihost -download and upload speeds were good but recently speeds have been lousy...on par or worse than our adsl 2mbps line.

I have sent query via this channel to Afrihost and awaiting feedback.

Most the slow speed issues are due to congestion and this is well known by Rain and Internet Solutions and they are activity working on combating this issue by conducting infrastructure upgrades across the board. This means that all these issue should be resolved in the coming weeks/months. :)

In saying this, there are cases were the signal in a particular area has been weak and has caused slow speed. :( How is the signal on your side?

Hi AfriNatic

See speed test done yesterday:

MyBroadband Speed Test
Ping 67ms Download 0.2Mbps Upload 0.28Mbps
2018-01-01 21:28:56
Server: Cape TownTest my speed

We situated in Ruyterwacht, Cape Town.

Weeks/months to wait on resolution sounds indefinite?? we upgraded from 2mbps adsl to wireless to benefit improve speed. I hope the speeds above are rarely experienced because then we could easily just have upgraded our adsl instead??

Please advise where I may log an official query for investigation.

Thanks

I can log for you now just encase there is something else that we are missing. Please send me a PM with your account info and I will log this for you.

Nothing resolved as of yet, still exactly the same, signal still hasn't returned back to the levels it was in october. (how does congestion reduce signal strength?)
Gaming has been useless since the issue started. (Pings anywhere from 30ms to 8000ms)
Bandwidth is also random, usually get great speeds (15mbps) early morning and around 0.5-1mbps during the evening.

Definitely congestion but nothing has been done about it yet - I dont really expect much so I'm just living with it for now.

Waiting for that day when someone replaces the ADSL lines or puts fiber in.

Generally with congestion latency would be more or less consistent but speeds would drop. You should also see improved performance out of peak hours. Are you seeing this? Or are your speeds and latency consistently poor?

Hi,

Can anyone please advise me why my Fixed Wireless modem's Mode LED went red over an hour and half ago..

Ive been very patient with this signal loss thing. My bars used to be on 3. Now it’s showing either 1 or goes completely to red. I get a pathetic 0.5mb/s. I have a 110gig package. I don’t understand. 2 months ago I used to get speed around 14mb/s. Now I get 0.5mb/s.
I live in 25 Hennie Winterbach street, Panorama , which is in the heart of the blue coverage map they showed me before I signed up. I cannot do anything with this speed. Please help or advise what I should do. Can someone advise me what happened. Its not my modem. And its not my simcard or account.

I'm not aware of any widespread issues on the Fixed Wireless packages. Have you been able to reconnect?

:( This is definitely something that we are engagin RAIN with. At the end of the day we want our Clients to have the best possible experience. We will keep working on this from our side.
